Linden woman found dead in creek By Cathy Wilson Sunday, April 15th 2007

Police at Linden have their work cut out as they are once again faced with the suspected murder of another young woman. Twenty-three-year-old Monalisa Rigby's body was found in a creek a short distance away from her Lower Kara Kara/Speightland home. And the police subsequently arrested a man the young woman had been dating. According to her relatives, the young woman had left her mother's home on Friday morning for the Mackenzie Market where she was training to become a seamstress. She never returned home and around 11:00 hrs yesterday, her body was found in the creek. A resident of the area said she had just crossed the creek to purchase chicken to cook when she noticed a crowd a short distance ahead of her. "Den someone seh that a lady body deh in de creek and ask me fuh call de police." The woman said she had no credit in her cellular phone and she borrowed a phone and summoned the police. According to persons on the scene, Rigby was found with her face and feet down in the water, but her bottom was up. Several persons said there were black and blue areas on her body. They said her body was found between some branches in the water and her cell phone was retrieved from the water. A rope with blood and her slippers were also found nearby. The woman's pants and underwear were both halfway down her legs and her top had been torn.
Monalisa Rigby's mother's house which she had moved to some two weeks ago.
The victim's husband Clifton Rigby rushed to the scene on receiving the news of her demise and went into the water to retrieve his wife's body. However, he fainted in the process and was unconscious for an extended period. He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where according to reports, he was found to have ingested a poisonous substance . When Stabroek News visited the hospital he was being given an intravenous infusion. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery. According to the young woman's father, when he arrived at the scene his daughter's body had already been pulled out of the water and was covered with a sheet. He said that he removed the sheet from her face briefly and did not notice any marks of violence or otherwise. He had last seen his daughter around 6.30 am the previous day when she went to his business place to purchase items to cook. However, a sister-in-law of the young woman said Rigby and her husband had been having domestic problems and the woman had left her matrimonial home some two weeks ago and returned to her mother's home. It was said that Rigby was involved with another man who would take her home on his motorcycle every night. According to reports, this man had stayed with Rigby at her mother's house two nights ago; her mother and foster father were both away at their farm where they had been for about two weeks now. Relatives said that since Rigby left her husband's home he frequently visited her, pleading with her to return home. She never did. One relative said they had been encouraging the young woman to reconcile with her husband since they had learnt that the man she was seeing was also married. Stabroek News understands that the man has since been taken into custody for questioning. Rigby was the second young woman to have died under suspicious circumstances and on Friday morning, another young woman was hospitalized nursing stab wounds about her body after a man entered her Block 22 home and attempted to rape her. Just last Saturday, the body of 25-year-old Melissa Anthony was found in a pool of blood in her Retrieve home. Her husband, Shane Anthony, a teacher at the Mackenzie High School and an elder in the Linden Jehovah's Witness church was held and was charged on Friday last. He is to appear in court on Tuesday. Stabroek News understands that two young men had given information incriminating Anthony. According to sources, the two young men alleged that they had seen the couple fighting under the house earlier the said day. Melissa was also a teacher and was attached to the Christianburg Primary School.

Good point confusing reporting looks like two different cases reported as one that make the JW's look especially sordid, not our scheme to do so.

This is so wrong, how can u charge an innocent man. Mr Shane Anthony taught me and he is a man with good qualities. He did not kill his wife.
