There was a thread a little while ago that explained how they make it seem that every convention and assembly is always running at a deficit. But I can't rember the trick. Can anyone explain this again or post the thread?
Basically- they determine the expense for the use of the facilities and how much they will send to Mother WTS. That amount is
deducted from total funds collected at that assembly BEFORE THE ASSEMBLY OR CONVENTION IS OVER.
That always causes a negative number (or deficit) to come up for the announcements. They know that their real actual "costs" are
less, so they include the donation to WTS in their costs, and they know that many people give their donation at the end of the last
session, as they exit the building, so all donations received after the count are not figured into the total. YET they expect so much and
usually, the elders vote to send a portion of it to WTS, increasing the deficit.
Many circuits are different, but generally they learn to keep just a few thousand on hand to get them to the next assembly, the surplus is
donated to WTS and the assembly hall, then funds on hand (in the announcements) are lower, therefore you don't hear that a huge
surplus was donated 6 months ago. Virtually every elder learns that this is the way it's done.
