Nine Inch Nails, Fields of the Nephilim, Tool, The Shins, Radiohead, Diana Krall, Van Morrisey, Dead Can Dance, Current 93, Coil, Bright Eyes, Yonder Mountain String Band, Ray LaMontagne, Chris Cornell, Rush,Alice in Chains...
Wow, I'm really showing my age. The bolded ones are the only ones I know and the underlined I have heard about, the rest I have never heard of.

No, actually, not too many people would know those others anyway, except for perhaps Tool and maybe some of the younger ones might know The Shins.

Chris Cornell was the lead singer for Soundgarden and Audioslave (or was it Soundslave and Audiogarden?), but I prefer his solo work by far.

This song of his has particularly special meaning for me, as I am very sure you can understand

Chris Cornell - Preaching the End of the World

Hello, I know there's someone out there who can understand
And who's feeling the same way as me
I'm twenty-four and I've got everything to live for
But I know now that it wasn't meant to be
'Cause all has been lost and all has been won
And there's nothing left for us to save
But now I know that I don't want to be alone today
So if you find that you've been feeling just the same

    Call me now it's alright
It's just the end of the world
You need a friend in the world
    'Cause you can't hide
So call and I'll get right back
    If your intentions are pure
I'm seeking a friend for the end of the world

I've got a photograph I'll send it off today
And you will see that I am perfectly sane
Not for a lifetime or forever and a day
'Cause we know now that just won't be the case
There will be no commitment and no confessions
And no little secrets to keep
No little children or houses with roses just the
end of the world and me
'Cause all has been gone and all has been done
And there's nothing left for us to say
But we could be together as they blow it all away
And we can share in every moment as it breaks

    Call me now it's alright
It's just the end of the world
You need a friend in the world
    'Cause you can't hide
So call and I'll get right back
    If your intentions are pure
I'm seeking a friend for the end of the world.

(So happy I finally found my friend for the end of the world, Brigid...)

I've heard of all those, and I've heard some of those.

Fields of Nephilim? Which album should I check out?

    Chameleon

I would recommend their earlier album, named, simply, The Nephilim. I'm not too fond of Dawnrazor, but Elizium and Revelations are also fantastic.

Whatever the girl I like tells me to listen to :P.

But personally, I've been exploring classic rock. I saw a Pink Floyd CD at walmart that I totally want to get.

Has a prism on it, its called eclipse or dark side of the moon. I think one of those is the name of a song on the CD, not really sure.

That album is twice my age :P .

I'm an equal opportunity music listener.

I'll give most music 30 seconds to get my attention, good or bad.

I've often been astonished at the time it takes me to like something.

    5 seconds, in many cases.
