What a story...
Part of the sickness that JW's have is an exaggerated sense of self importance. They believe that the entire world is fascinated with them. That is probably why they engaged in so much infantile anti-social behavior -- like small children that mis-behave to get attention.
I think someone should compile a book about all of the JW 'urban myth' stories that have gone around.
Hi Concerned,
what are your 'negociations' with your fiancee doing? Everything OK?
On the day of the attack I went to my sisters house and we watched the news together. My other sister works just 2 blocks away and we were trying to get info about her safety. She was fine, btw. It was a very tense day for us all. At her home there was yet another sister and a friend who is also an ex jw. We are all inactive jw's.
Of course the subject came up. My one sister said that she wants to go running and pounding on the doors of the WTBTS saying,"Let me in!" Because she feared this was the "end."
I of course felt this was the most ridiculous thing I have heard. If the org was wrong about so many things what would make it right to go back now? Fear. that is all it is fear and misunderstanding of the doctrines in the first place.
Our friend said that she was taught so much about the bible that it has to be right. But could give me no scriptural basis for her reasons for returning. As of now, my one sister is currently studying again!
The subject is a very heated one, so we ended the discussion. To all of those returning out of fear. Maybe when they are 60 and the end still hasn't come, they will then realize that they wasted their life as well.

I just want to say that all of the replies are RIGHT ON!!!
The quality of the stuff said in this thread restores my confidence that this DB has not been completely taken over by folks whose postings make me want to spend my time elsewhere.
Way to go, everybody.

mommy: your comment reminds me of the feeling that gets apocalyptic people really excited -- the day when everyone is so sorry and wants in and it is TOO LATE! remember the noah drama? the laughing, the incessant, mocking laughing. the door shuts. SLAM! then the rain starts, slowly at first, then increasing. the laughing dies down and is replaces by cries and pleas which too fade to silence. that moment is very powerful for apocalyptic minded people because its so personally vindicating. there are probably deeper psychological factors at work here which i am not qualified to analyze. its a wonderful vindication to have someone change their mind and agree with your point of view, but it seems to be an even more powerful vindication to have some SUFFER TERRIBLY for disagreeing with you.
one interesting comment in the WT summary at the supplementary meeting (i didnt mention it before because it was a local brother and so not really relevant to the event) the conductor asked mockingly, 'why has the meeting attnedace gone up since september 11th? where were all these people before? but how long will it last? before they go back to their old lifestyle.' i thought it wouldve been nice to throw in a 'we hope they stay' or 'its nice to have them back anyways' but he moved on with only negative comments for people who had been moved by fear of world events. this is door-slamming-rain-starting-vindication at work.
