Jehovah's Witnesses bizarre reaction to world events

Isnt it a bit strange how JW's react to the different things that go on in the world?

After 9/11 I heard a brother describe the death and carnage as 'tragic but exciting'. Is it just me or is this a totally twisted way of looking at what happened in NY that day? Can you imagine hearing ANYONE else describing the loss of thousands of lives as 'exciting'?

It seems to me that JW's have their heads so far up their own arseholes that they cant even react in a humane way when things happen in the world. Always looking to fit it into one of their pissy little prophecies or something.

Did you ever hear anything like this?

    ALL the time.

Every world event that is bad becomes a reason to rejoice because it is proof the end is near.

When you live in a world of total fantasy, what is left of your rational mind develops an abnormal craving for verification. Anything, anytime, anyplace that might actually prove the cartoon to be real tips you over into an orgasm of "Yes!!".

I honestly think this is why religious zealots set dates which can destroy their own credibility. It is because they are starved for reality and by pushing their chips all in they might just bring it all to a head and win big.

Jehovah's Witnesses bump into the real world all the time and run crying back to the arms of the Kingdom Hall hypnosis for therapy. But, sooner or later the delusion creates such internal dissonance they grasp at straws in a panic for sanity.

The bizarre scrutiny of world events is that ticking bomb of madness demanding explosive closure and an end to the bootstrapping of fantasy that just doesn't quite make it in the real world.

I live a couple of hours from Virginia Tech, so the shootings there are still getting a lot of coverage, especially from a local perspective.

While most of the country mourns and grieves the loss of these innocent victims, I've heard comments from my JW relatives that seems cold hearted. Comments like, "Well, this just shows how close to the end we are..." or "This is Bible prophecy being fulfilled" but never any comments about what a tragedy it was. No sense of outrage. No expression of feeling for those who died or their families.

JWs, as a group, are devoid of true human emotion when it comes to anyone outside of their close family/friends circle. Not even JWs in other parts of the world are mourned or grieved over when they go through trials. Years of being indoctrinated to accept bad things as being part of God's bigger plan has stunted their growth as feeling, caring humans. I speak from what I know, because I see it in myself, from all the years of being a JW. I'm getting better, because I can see the attitudes of some JWs and it bothers me that I used to be the same way.

When the 9/11 news broke here, it was about 2am (I think). We were not JWs then, but that didn't stop my father and my brother in law ringing us at 2.30am and 3am respectively to tell us that Armageddon had started.

It always amazes me that in the face of such immeasurable loss, JWs get all excited as it is another 'sign' the 'end' is near!

And it is extremely embarrassing when they express such joy in public...and loud enough for all to hear!!!

    Do they have no shame???

Terry, you're often a little too intelligent for my brain to absorb, but the above is both true and hilarious. Extremely well-expressed!

No one else but the jws would see the death of so many as "exciting", but they get very excited at the prospective death of 6 billion humans at armageddon, so what else can we expect from them when a major disaster occurs?

I think some of them actually look forward to events like 9/11, and secretly wish for more of them. As you said, they love to talk about how these trgedies fit so neatly into their pet prophesies of the "sign" of the last days

The hub of their message does seem to prompt panic into individuals, who if already vulnerable as a result of their current circumstances, are more likely to respond in kind. For this reason, love is less of a motivating factor in securing someones response, and by the time that individual starts to ask themselves questions, it's often immpossible for them to know if they're in it for love, or out of a panic/fear response to what they heard early on.

Same with a marriage, if you get together and a child follows quickly, you may do the decent thing and marry out of a panic response or fear of religion (Gods displeasure) and only later do you realise you're not actually doing this because you're in love and now it's one mess to make right for everyones sakes! If you're not in religion for the love, why are you in it?

    'tragic but exciting'.

Sure, when you are anticipating the mass slaughter of around 6 billion people - and consider that to be "good news" , What does the death of 2800 Yanks matter, in the scheme of things??

The only human concern that I heard was that one of the Fire Chiefs was reputed to have been a "brother"

Everything is according to Gods plan, they say..When Jehovah allows Satan to draw the King of the North into the the Land of Decoration, then they will know that something exciting is to happen ...Hey, "everybody dies sometime anyway so it is no big deal", My family say

BTW I can still remember receiving a phone call from home , the caller chortling with undisguised glee to tell me that somebody had shot the Pope...
