We used to have a border collie, he was the soppiest daftest thing on the planet, he used to spend hours chasing shadows! We've got a jack russell now - slightly different!

Every breed produces a few of these...don't judge them all just because of a few bad apples!!! Even the # 1 dog in the world, the lab (my avatar) has a couple that don't tow the party line. For the most part though, you can just about set your clock as to their behavior! I've never owned a border collie, just didn't think I had enough energy, but they sure look like a lot of fun. I can tell you that labs sure are!!! I my lab!!!

and dress her in clothes. hehehe can't you see Ross walking her?

I got her when she was a puppy, 10 weeks old and she will be 4 in September. Where does the time go? I love her so much. She is a full-blooded Border Collie. They are a whole different breed of dog. I get stopped on the street all the time by people wanting to know more about Border collies. And I have had people pull over in their cars (several times!) who have a border collie and they want to see mine and talk about them! It is so funny!

My doggie is a little bit smaller, 35 lbs maybe...she was the runt of the litter. SOOOOOO affectionate though. She thrives on attention. And she is a great frisbee player too. I wish I could throw as well as she catches. Faster than any dog around too and can turn on a dime. She is so friendly and great with kids. Bit hyper but managable. She loves to play with kids and even becomes more gentle around them. She is also protective of me and ONLY from creepy people...she has never growled at anyone I did not feel deserved it. She has also never had a destructive moment in her life. I really do believe she is the perfect dog. But I am biased...perhaps...

Beautiful Ms.Jessie! Welcome to the forum!

I have 2 female mini cocker spaniels the same color.

I've found that when you have a dog in the "working class" breed you must give it a job to do or else it gets nutty. My daughter has a white german shepherd and when she walks her the dog carries a back pack (which you can buy on line or in a pet supply store) with cans of food in it for weight.

The dog is happy as a lark because it performed a "duty". Just a suggestion if your "working class" breed dog seems too wound up.

Say Ian? Are you going to call the pup Ronaldo when he makes a puddle on the floor???? lol

Thanks juni :) I will get a doggie back pack next time I go shopping for her! I thought about getting one but never really made the effort. I did buy her a cute sweater but that will be useless in the summer. A back pack would be wonderful because we generally walk around everywhere especially on hikes...having her carry her own food and water, what a concept!

This is my boy, not a border collie but a border terrier. He is 14 months old now and we adore him. He gives more than he takes, dog owners will know what I mean. He is always sooooooooo pleased to see us if we have been out, always brings us some kind of pressie (a toy, a tea towel he has knicked or a smelly sock out of the washing basket).

We have been contemplating have another but we are not sure. Honestly I dont know if I would love another like I love him.

A lovely saying I once heard and which I think is probably true "A dog is the only being that will love you more than you love yourself".

Gonna go and take him WALKIES now.

Hi Ian, I have a Border Collie as well. Be prepared to be absolutely knackered - they are such great fun and will give you so much back. Don't be surprised if your Collie pops it's head around the shower with a ball for you to throw - they are so obedient, lovely dogs and great loyal friends. I have a soft spot for all animals.

My last dog (she died two years ago from an acute attack of pancreatitis) was a border collie-Brittany spaniel mix.

Good grief, she was smart! We had to constantly think up new games to keep her little brain engaged. And she was the best dog ever for getting us off the coach and out into the wild. What an intense bundle of love-dog she was.

Have fun with your new baby!
