I can't find the exact quote (I'll keep looking) but Charles Swindoll said of church discipline "we're the only outfit I know of that shoots its own wounded."

I think that is a very apt way to say what JW's do. About twenty years ago a relative was diagnosed as bipolar. Her behavior was bizarre to say the least, she had a problem with sexual obsession among other things. She was advised to see a psychiatrist and take meds. The elders told her not to see the counselor and she hated the meds and stopped taking them. The elders, in their loving kindness, disfellowshipped her. She's been drinking herself to death ever since.

I know we all know a thousand other stories like that. How many people, hurting, crying out, seeking help (or needing it even if they don't know it) and get kicked in the teeth for having troubles?

Boy! How I can relate to that, so true.

Must remember that best description I've heard. Simple but true.

Hey, the Muslims will do it literally! But religion definitely can bring out the best or worst in people. Too bad folks don't just feel free to be as loving as they want without being as ugly and judgemental as their "god" or "faith" tells them they should be. I think many people go against their personal inclinations in obeying the religious edicts to shun or ignore those who don't believe as they do or who have rejected said beliefs.

Before the JW's shoot their wounded, three of them (the committee) take the wounded one into a room and ask him/her to help load the gun.

If the wounded one refuses to help load the gun, the committee of three sends you outside the room for 15 minutes or so, load the gun themselves, and then ask you to come in to the room so they can shoot you. Then they will read you a related Bible verse to justify the shooting.
