After my ex left me in 2001, I met a guy at a karaoke bar who I got along with very well. He lent me a mix tape of his which I made a copy of. The songs on that tape helped me get through that very difficult time in my life. It was new, refreshing music to help me get going on my new path of life.

I don't know what it is about other people's mix tapes / CDs, but they can be really special. I burned a CD of the songs I like on the tape. I still love this compilation. Here's the track list:

In The Day We'll Never See - Winger
    Don't Look Back - Boston
Change Comes Around - Harem Scarem
    Modern World - Aldo Nova
    One - Creed
    Rollin' Stoned - Great White
Hang On St. Christopher - Bulletboys
Seven Days Over You - Poison
Don't Blame It On Love - Danger Danger
In a Darkened Room - Skid Row
Darker Side of Blue - Tal Bachman
    Renegade - Styx
    Evil Woman - ELO

    What are yours?

Ah gotta love anyone who puts Skid Row and Creed on a compilation!

Mine is Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit - if I ever lack inspiration, impetus or energy to say and do something then I listen to that.

It's funny how music can have that effect on people. Right now I'm having a real hard time where I'm at away from my wife and alot of crazy things happening around here, the song that I seem to listen to the most is:

"I want to Conquer The World" By Bad Religion

It's kind of my attitude right now, it's working really well.

During a particularly difficult time in my life, I discovered "Poe" via her album "Haunted". I listened to that album 8 hours a day, over and over. Then I found her "Hello" album (which was her first, I believe) and started rotating them. Good music, but more importantly, it got me thru.

    These days its Alanis Morissette.

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac is a good breakup song!

I had a painful breakup after a nine-year relationship in the mid-'90s, and the perfect album to work through the emotions of this was Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It had the mood swings of emotions that I was going through....sappy lovey love ("Cupid de Locke"), tortured pain ("Bodies"), quiet sadness ("Thirty-Three"), and unrestrained anger ("X.Y.U."), and it also doesn't hurt that it was one of the best albums ever recorded.

KT Tunstall - Eye to the telescope. "When the fire fades away, most of every day is full of tired excuses, but it's too hard to say, I wish it were simple, but we give up easily, your close enough to see that you are the other side of the world to me". Makes me upset a bit but sums up how I feel about me and my loved ones in the truth.

    "Flesh & Blood" by Poision.
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that during difficult times and let out some emotions.

When a beautiful and brilliant young man - who was my best friend and "little brother" - died at age 25 years (what a waste!) by violent suicide after being misunderstood by elders (he was tortured by the efforts to reconcile his homosexual nature with the careless homophobia of the "shepherds" and the studied hatred of the doctrines), disfellowshipped and cut off from association,

I found release and solace for my own anguish in Sinead O'Connor's "Lion and the Cobra." I still do.
