I love the whole attitude and mind control that apostates telling experiences, facts and truths about being in the organisation, is just ex-witnesses trying to spread lies and make the society look bad.(of course led by satan, right?)

I was told to not believe all that stuff on the internet about them, and I replied "I'm not, take the watchtower society website for example". That shut'em up.

Then you have to ask, what does the society do to people that makes them start this behavior? (assuming when they were in good standing they were not habitual liars) Upon leaving one becomes a liar? How does this make sense? When you are in the jw's you can practice theocratic warfare (or lying to the rest of society) and when one leaves the jw's they also become liars. I can only conclude then that the fruits of the society is to produce liars, either in or out.

I recently finished reading an excellent book entitled: Churches That Abuse by Ronald M. Enroth. This book was an analysis of cultic Bible groups in the United States. Enroth spent years doing in-depth research and conducting interviews of former members. Interestingly, he does not once mention JWs. However, there are striking similarities.

One of the common threads in all of these cultic Bible groups was the ways in which they demonized former members. Several of the groups referred to former members as "apostates", "enemies of God", and "rebellious like Korah". All of these groups painted former members as liars who could not be trusted. Members faced disciplinary action simply for speaking to former members. Sound familiar??

Enroth provided several quotes from journals and newsletters published by these churches. Many of the quotes sounded as if they had been lifted directly from Watchtower articles.

The book was a great read. I highly recommend it.

They don't need us to make them look bad.

I saw that all you have to do is hang them with their own words.

Some secular reference works, especially ones that don't referrence JWs, could really do a job on a JW. They would simply have no answer to a religion that walks like a duck, sounds like a duck...It's a beautiful thing when someone outside of the cult can make the cult look like a cult! My personal favorite: Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control.

Arthur, I'll check on that book. I'm actually glad that it doesn't mention JWs. That way it's easier to say, "Oh wow, look at the similarities between those churches and mine!"

Edit: I just ordered "Combatting Mind Control" for in-store pickup. Now that my mom has quit her job and is home fulltime, I can't ship stuff to the house...

It's a very simple statement that even a JW can easily remember, and it gives them a way out of answering the hard questions that could cause upheaval in their lives.
