Wow BFD, you see I didn't realise it could be that bad? How much do you smoke and what kind of ciggies? Mrs Clam used to roll her own. She didn't really smoke that much. Over the years I've had the odd cigarette with an alcoholic drink, but thankfully it's never really gripped me. I can take it or leave it, and other people smoking doesn't bother me one bit.

I'm of the opinion it is a nearly impossible task for some to quit.
But remember it wont stop heavens entrance -just smell like you visited hell beforehand -

My dad used to roll his own cigs too. Both types! lol
I smoke Camel Lights and I smoke about 20 cigs a day. Do they really call them fags on your side of the pond?

BFD Yep we call them fags, LOL, but we know not to call them that when in the US. they're also called straights, coffin nails and chokers.
Mouthy great advice. I'll stick with it. Maybe I'll get Jehovah to help out too.

Here is a good site that explains the withdrawal process: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_13X_Guide_for_Quitting_Smoking.asp
The physical withdrawal phase doesn't last nearly as long as people think.
The tobacco industry spends billions in their ads perpetuating people's beliefs that it's soooo hard to quit. I'm not saying it's easy, just not as difficult as the industry purports.
There is a new drug, Chantix, which is getting very favorable reviews from people quitting. I was just talking to a cancer patient who is on it and has tried everything else.
Nicotine replacements such as the patch or lozenges can be used to taper off the addiction, rather than to suddenly stop. Unfortunately many people don't follow the directions, then assume the medications didn't work. We are having great success with them here when used as directed--twice as many stay tobacco free than without.
All cravings go away no matter how you choose to respond to them.
Don't give in = craving goes away.

Clam, Welbutrin is a prescription antidepresant and most doctors have no problem prescribing it if you trying to quite smoking. I hope things mellow out for you soon. Nic fits are no fun for anyone.

It takes awhile. It's tough but not undoable. I watched my dad gasp for breath before he died. He'd still be alive now if it wasn't for his smoking. My mother can hardly walk and it's caused osteoporosis. Their house was disgusting and brown.
It is a terrible thing. Expensive, and a horrible thing to do around children. Encourage your wife. She needs it. Once a bit more time has passed, you'll both be happy. She will not longer be enslaved to something that is slowly killing her.
Tell her, "You can do eeeet!!!!!"

Quandry sorry to hear about how the drug affected your parent's lives. It amazes me how so many kids around here seem to be smoking. Young users taking over from the dying and dead ones. Terrible.
Rebel8 thanks for that. The ACS article is very interesting. Wellbutrin as recommnded by Brent along with Chantix look good routes to follow if the withdrawl is prolonged. She's having a big lifestyle change at the moment, now also giving up coffee and exercising a lot. I'm hoping that the tangible physical improvements which she's feeling in herself will offset her sporadic cravings. Here's hoping anyway. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

She is giving up cigs and coffee? Holy crap! I would either be in prison or the psychiatric hosp. for certain. I hope you check in with us each day so we know you have not been injured or killed.
