Matthew 24:14. Jesus says, This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth, for a witness, and then the end will come.

This work only done by Jehovah's Witnesses for about 125 years approximately. They have 6 million preachers concentrated in mostly 20 countries.

Lets say they have preached it in all of North America, which is still debatable since there are still a large segment of people who have no really clear idea of what witnesses believe "the good news" is.

Even so, Just in China and India there are 2 Billion human beings who have probably never been preached to even once. Add Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc and you have at least another billion with the population in these hard to reach countries continuously growing.

How can the end come before Jesus's prophecy comes true. How can even, the beginning of the end begin before all these people have been reached?

There are an estimated 5 million homeless people in the US? Certainly countless more in Brazil, Mexico, etc. Are they being reached?

    Hey JB,
I remember one of the last meeting that I went to the C.O. was talking exactly about that issue. His (WT) explanation was the following:

"WE DO NOT NEED TO TALK TO EVERYONE OR EVERY PERSON for Jesus's words to be fulfilled".
He said that people see the JW's walking in the street and that in itself is a witness to them because they already know who they are.

He said that it's like the walls of Jericho. Now the Jws are on their seventh figurative turn around the city (preaching) and that everyone, person by person, in the city of Jericho was not warned before the walls came down.

Today it will be the same. Thats why the Jw's will have to be on their best behavior so that just by their acts they can save others without one word.

Damn! Their reasoning scares me! Wooo! I'm amazed that I can still remember details like that....I think I can still convince people thats the truth! LOL!

When I asked my friend this question about 3 months ago, he said there was recently new "light" on this very subject...

Unfortunatly, he explained it to me, and I forgot it, because it was such circular logic that I couldn't follow it..

Funny thing was, as he was explaining it to me, I could see in his eyes that even he wasn't buying the "new light"...

Anyone remember what that "new light" was???

Actually, I'm not sure what JW's are trying to accomplish, anyway. According
to the Bible, the good news was preached to all the earth in the first century.

"So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching
of Christ. But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for 'Their voice has
gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.'" - Romans 10:17,18

Whatever standard the Bible was using to determine what constitutes the "entire
earth" is unknown. However, it should be safe to assume that the writer of Romans
knew the answer. And according to him, the work was done.

There are some major contradictions here:

    (excuse the round numbers)

Today there are 6 million jws
Today there are 6 billion people on earth

Let's say the "end" comes in 10 years time (when is irrelevant - in fact as we will see the longer the worse the argument gets)

So in 10 years lets say:
    - there will be 7.5 million jws
    - there will be 7.5 billion people on earth

JWS grew by 1.5 million. Humanity grew by 1.5 BILIION. The difference is 1.485 billion people that have been born into this "old wicked system of things" - all so that JWs could increade by 1.5 million people. Now in 10 years God would have to destroy 1,498,500,000 extra people.

If he is a "God of love" and if it is true that "he doesn't desire any to be destroyed" then surely it would have made sense long ago to bring the "end". At the rate in which humaity is outgrowing jws the preaching work will NEVER be finished.

    Am I completely fucking crazy?

I wonder if I was at the same meeting - that sure sounds familiar. If I was a timid JW who only pretended to knock on doors, or ring the bell, I would sleep a lot better at night if I believed that statement. Why bother to walk the territory - just put a placard on the side of your car and drive around the neighborhood?

I really liked the chapters Ray Franz devoted to the door to door ministry's lack of effectiveness - a real eye opener for me when I read it.

My attempt to explain to Bible Students who asked the legitimate question "what about all those in China, Sudan etc." was that in the end, we have to leave that to Jehovah's mercy and justice. He can read hearts, etc etc and would know IF given the chance to be exposed to the "truth" they would accept it. Also, like in Russia, the political climate may change overnight so the work could be opened up etc.

Still does not explain how "the good news would be preached to ALL the inhabited earth before the end comes".

    Great posts,

The Society's reasoning on these points is so flawed.

"Just imagine, brothers, if Jehovah had brought the end 20 years ago, millions would never have had the opportunity to come into the truth and gain everlasting life!"

And MANY MILLIONS MORE would not have been doomed to death, of course. But let's not mention that.

As for "we don't actually have to talk to everyone in order for the preaching commission to be fulfilled," that falls down on two counts.

First, who would accept the notion that they'd been adequately informed about ANY subject just by seeing somebody in a suit walk by?

You go shopping for a TV at an electronics store and see the salesman walking by. "Oh good, now I've got all the information about buying a TV that I could need. Whether I do or don't buy a TV, I have to shoulder the full responsibility myself because I SAW the guy." RIGHT!!!

Second, there are millions of people worldwide who have never seen and will never in the near future see a Witness out in service.

And all those faceless billions facing extinction at Armageddon can earn ``brownie points'' with the Great Executioner by simply dying beforehand. Then they quality for a resurrection!
