Didya ever notice that the cited scriptures often didn't make the point?

Good memory, Dave. Same thing used to occur to me while a JW. Some scriptures just did not support the point in any meaningful way. I also remember how sometimes the publications' printed questions were not really answered in some of the corresponding paragraphs. You could often feel the cumulative paralysis when these questions were covered in the congregation. Someone would primarily read from the paragraph, pause here and there, and hand the microphone back. Then everyone would look up at the conductor, hoping he understood it.

Since Jehovah enables his servants to understand his purpose in a progressive manner, increased knowledge often requires adjustments in one's thinking. (Prov. 4:18)

As the "Revealer of secrets," Jehovah would eventually unveil pertinent details regarding the outworking of this secret. (Daniel 2:28) But he would do so gradually, progressively. To illustrate, we might think of the way a loving father responds when his little boy asks, "Dad, where did I come from?" A wise father provides only as much information as that little boy can grasp. As the boy gets older, the father tells him more. In a similar way, Jehovah determines when his people are ready for revelations of his will and purpose. -- Proverbs 4:18; Daniel 12:4.

Here's one that is pretty funny:

Do we eagerly accept explanations of Bible truth as provided by "the faithful and discreet slave"? (Matthew 24:45-47; Proverbs 4:18) Do we resist pressure to have the latest gadget, the latest fashion, or the newest model automobile? A humble person will be able to say yes to such questions. -- 1 Peter 1:14-16; 2 Peter 3:11.
