It depends how bad the divide is, divorce is a very stressful experience for those involved and best avoided but if things come to an irreversible point of resentment and bitterness then unfortunately divorce is the only solution. Something all too common nowadays.

It isn't a public service announcement...if it was it would read.... Lifes short, don't get married

I agree that life is too short to stay in a miserable marriage. Still I think before you throw it away you should get some counseling to try and work it out before you divorce.

I agree, too; life is also too short to spend it on miserable lawyers. (Aside: A wealthy woman I know was perfectly happy, at least she claimed, to give $10,000 a month to her divorce lawyers, consoling herself with the knowledge that it was $10,000 less than her ex-husband (and consequently her children) would get. Sickness manifests itself in many forms.) That is a very, very amusing ad, but it's also sick.

Well...IF you can't make it work its probably better to cut losses and move on. It ain't easy though and it ain't fun. Take it from someone who is going through it.

I agree with restrangled lawyers make their money off other peoples misfortune. The lawyer in this case is trying to create a need and then he wants to fill it.

My partner is a lawyer and I'd like to say that you are not entirely right. Without the law and those who work in it, all sorts of injustice would go unpunished. For instance, who wants a situation where your spouse can just sod off and give you NOTHING? That would be the situation if there were no divorce law! Also, lawyers protect people against discriminations at work, etc. so that people are not simply sacked for being pregnant or disabled or old (for instance). Law fees are mostly justified because the law is a vast subject and the lawyers are intelligent and capable individuals who deserve monetary reward for their expertise. Sirona

Just a reminder....We're talking about a divorce lawyer who paid big bucks for an advertisement promoting divorce that said "Lifes short, get a divorce", not Atticus Finch.

To be honest, what I find is the most difficult part of my job is dealing with peoples double standards; when you are working with them and getting the results they want; you are the best thing since sliced bread; this however changes when they get your bill. My firm is transparent in their fees and regularly updates the client so that they can budget; they are aware as to who is working on their matter and what the project is likely to cost both during and at the end of the matter. They are in complete control in other words.

When they get the bill however they then start to have problems; they then question how much time it took to prepare what often are extremely complex documents; they question the fact that you had to research a thorny or tricky point of law and they then assume that they couldve done the work themselves which is just plain ludicrous.

The fact that you have just saved them from being dismissed and suffering a loss of their often higher salary than mine is irrelevant; the fact that you may have secured substantial damages for losses is also irrelevant, and to be honest it stinks.

Some lawyers are bottom feeders I agree, but predominantly the good ones are conscientious, dedicated, and get results which is what people pay us for; there are some which use dubious methods of advertising which I disagree with completely but the answer to that is better regulation and more strict standards.

Proof Atticus Finch does exist. Hope the rest of your day goes better.

What is wrong with that ad anyway?

If I were married and I saw that ad, it would not induce me to get a divorce.

If I were unhappily married, it might make me consider seeking legal advice, but I'd still shop around and look for the right lawyer.

Just because an ad says "get a divorce" I doubt people will be destroying their perfectly good marriages (unless they're so stupid they may as well be single LOL).
