PERHAPS ONE SHOULD A JW THIS QUESTION.
THEN ASK THEM ,HOW COME HIS TEACHINGS HAVE BEEN ALTERED IF HE WAS TEACHING TRUTH?
You ask a great question! I've been telling this to my wife for quite a while now, that the real truth doesn't change. If we have the truth today it will always be true and never have to change. seek2find
My guess is they will go back to the funky light bulb theory. Thats what they throw out when they have to start backpedalling.
So then you say, why did God give the watertower a funky lightbulb for?
the light grows brighter... you might be better off asking them about miracle wheat!!!?! This is how J-Dubs earned their first millions, WITH LIES!!! so no russell wasnt telling the truth!
the infamous one
Most JW's have no idead of the extent of the changes the Society has made to The Divine Plan as taught by Russell. The Society continual tells their followers that what was taught then, when the Lord return has not chnaged. Often they will quopte some early Watchtower, I remember one where they taught that the Society has always championed the doctrine of the ransom. However, and then quote Russell. However, Russell taught A RANSOM FOR ALL, while the Society today teaches ARANSOME FOR SOME, they exclude Adam, Sodom, preflood, and everyone else who was killed by Jehovah's hand.

Truth be told, today's Dubs are "Rutherfordians."
WAS RUSSELL TEACHING TRUTH WHEN HE USED GREAT PYRAMID TO SUPPORT 1914?
The modern JWs have kept little from the teachings of Russell, they don't have much in common with him though they pretend they do because they must in this way give validity to the fact taht tehy took over and hold his corporation. As mentioned above their real spiritual father is Rutherford not Russell. Yes their claim that the dubs (Bible Students) of Russell's days and those of today are one and the same org is clearly false there is a big gap between the two.
I brought up Russell to my father. He asked why? I then brought up Rutherford and he asked if I was going to bring up Knorr as well. You need to realize that my dad is 65 and born and raised a dub, is now an elder and has been one off and on since they started the elder thing. His next question was "What does Russell have to do with anything?" I was shocked. i then realized that he is old school, which means that dubs are not a religion and the idea that a man started their religion is preposterous.
He really believes that it is god's religion-man has nothing to do with it. When I then skipped all the people and asked him why the bible hadn't changed in 2000 years but that dubs today believe differently than dubs 50 years ago, he called me an apostate and told me to leave.
I guess my point is that a true dub doesn't see any importance in Russell or any of the early controllers of the faith. They only see what is truth now-a complete disconnect happens when new "light" changes old. There is nothing in their make-up that allows for this type of reasoning. I found it quite ironic that I was being labeled an apostate when I was only stating fact from their history and quoting their publications. It is their only defense-attack the individual, not the message.
The only person that this reasoning will work on is someone who is already looking to find answers to all of the obvious questions.

Russell took what was a reworked failed idea and tweeked it.
The idea he tweeked came from Nathan Barbour.
Nathan Barbour had tweeked an already tweeked 2nd Adventist idea which, itself, had been a reworked (failed) idea of William Miller's.
William Miller had reworked some previous ideas about Daniel's prophecy that vanishes back farther and farther.
Here is what you have. Sincere self-educated bible students start with a false premise: Jesus is coming back in their day. They search out signifying events to "prove" that this is true. Then, they piece together scriptures and cut and paste reasoning to make it work.
Russell had the time, the money and the inclination to take already polished ideas which had previously convinced a lot of people. Russell changed a few things and added the Pyramidology. Further, he poured money into publishing, charts, publicity etc. which got plenty of attention.
The previous half century before C.T.Russell had seen nothing but interest in End Times boil over into one failed idea and failed date after another.
The people who believed these reasonings and dates had repeatedly been exposed as wrong. They were very sick and tired of being wrong! But, they couldn't just admit they were wrong and put their tails between their legs and skulk back into their old churches. No!
The disenfranchised christians who had turned on their old mainstream churches were looking for something that was just as exciting and meaningful to explain how they were right about the 2nd Coming of Christ after all.
Russell's was just one more effort that got a lot of eager listeners excited.
Russell's failures were yet more proof that End Times was an elusive carrot and stick proposition.
Yet, Rutherford was able to keep enough people interested to start yet again.
Rutherford's genius lay in turning the ragtag groups of 2nd Adventists who liked Russell's style and messege into something New and contrarian that really shook things up.
JW's for the most part love being the center of attention and controversy because it makes them feel important.
But, their prophecies and charts and predictions and chronologies are always proved wrong!
So, back to the drawing board again....and again....and again.........and call it NEW light.
