For those who've seen this play . . . Is it questionable for witnesses? I'm sure it is. I guess what I should ask is would it scare a witness? My niece planning to go with me to the play. I haven't read the book and I'm not too sure what it's all about. She has no problem watching the Wizard of Oz. LOL She knows that the play involves the witch and magical powers but she is unsure about it all. Is the Devil or Satan mentioned at all? I'm just trying to get a good idea so I can warn her. I'm really in a hurry right now so I probably am not making sense. Thanks!

I don't think it is scary at all, even for kids. It is really about the fuzzy side of good vs. evil. More for adults than kids. But I think they would enjoy it regardless due to the visual props. I suggest reading the book first. I'm going to see it again!

I just picked up the book and I have only 2 weeks to read it before I see the play. I doubt I'll finish because I'm such a slow learner. Thanks a lot Dogpatch for answering me.

Hi Sandy -
LTNS :)
I saw the play a few months ago and LOVED it.
Didn't read the book but a few people told me that the book is more explicit than the play is. The book is not for kids but we took an 8-yr-old and she was fine. (There *might* have been one scene that was slightly 'iffy' but I can't be sure.)
Enjoy the show!

I'm seeing it on June 9. This will probably be later than you need info.

Thanks Aude and horrible life. Actually my niece is 22 years old. LOL I just wonder if the Play is going to bother her conscience or make her think she'll be bringing home a demon afterwards. Really she's 22 yrs old but a dub so we all know how that is. How paranoid they get over certain things. I'm actually going on June 15th so Horrible Life please fill me in after you see it.

"Wicked" is about the witches of Oz, told from their perspective (I believe they were sisters). Story begins even before the Wizard arrived, and much occurs during the years when he was in Oz, but Dorothy had not yet arrived. Some magic, but nothing Satanic or demonic. More of an "earth magic" in which natural forces are used, not evil spirits.

I saw the play last night, finally. I loved it! I really loved the ending that was surprising.

The author that wrote this book also wrote a book about the wicked witch's (Elsphaba??) son which was very interesting. It got into the politics in Oz after Dorothy left. Kind of interesting and disturbing at the same time.
