Sci-fi fans or not? Speak Klingon? Or are you a face hugger?

It occurred to me during my meanderings through London last night that invariably boyfriends describe me in the context of science fiction. I like geeky guys A LOT so that is to be expected. But moving on to the dubious similarities - the first called me a a face hugger - nice, unless you have watched Aliens in which case you will know what a face hugger is. The second called me a Klingon. I clearly have personality flaws.

Have you ever been likened to a science fiction monster/person? If not, which do you relate to best?

(Oh and recently, this week, I was called Yoda....)

    Now, you speaka my language...sci-fi

I've been called Spock a lot because of my way of coldly analyzing a situation and also because I surprise people a lot with being able to retain a lot of useless knowledge in my head and giving it out when it is needed.

I so badly want to go to a sci-fi convention...haven't yet because I don't know any big fans that would go to any (don't know enough geeks, I guess). I love star wars and star trek. I've read more books on both series more than I can count. I think I know Tolkien (not quite sci-fi...but still geeky) better than the bible and the wt literature. :) How many times have I read the bible through? Once...How many times have I read the Lord of the Rings? 7 times. The Silmarrilion? 3 times. Anything I could find with Tolkien's name on it...at least once. There are at least 25 books in my personal library of Star Trek and Star Wars, and I've read them at least two times. One of them is the tech manual for Star Trek.

Speak Klingon? Maybe one day...I can say "to be or not to be" in Klingon. But first things first...I am trying to speak Spanish fluently, and I feel that mixing another language in there might hurt it...especially a fictional one.

I see myself as Luke...struggling with the dark side...seeing the good in others...even in Emperor Palpatine-like elders who would rather bake you like a potato with their lightning bolts than treat you lovingly...but ultimately, I want to be a good guy (and learn how to light saber duel...cuz it's just cool to wave around a neon-colored blade).

    I love Sci-Fi.

I don't speak Klingon. Just English, Spanish and a few words in Japanese.

    Alien movies are way cool!

Unfavorable comparisons to sci-fi characters doesn't get one second dates to be sure.

This past week I watched Serenity, Pitch Black, and The Chronicles of Riddick.

It sounds like a compliment towards your intteligence. Unless you have pointy ear's it should be cool.

Too many people think I look like Clint Eastwood so I'm never likened to a sci-fi character. In my last college writing class, a Boston police detective in the class said I looked like the bad guy in the latest movie, Chainsaw massacer. I didn't feel complimented. I think I would rather be likened to a sci-fi character, too many movies where the murderer or rapist is named after me. And there was one murder movie where everyone had the same birthdate in common, May tenth, my birthday.

"Scotty, beam me up, there's no intelligent life down here."

Serenity is awesome...why'd they have to go and cancel that Firefly series, anyway. I mean...sci-fi plus western. Best of both worlds. *sigh*

I read a great deal of sci-fi and fantasy, have always enjoyed it. A group of friends get together once a month and watches old sci-fi movies and tv episodes, sometimes Star Trek or Dr. Who, sometimes Logans Run or Day The Earth Stood Still. Next month we'll watch Galaxy Quest, and hopefully some cartoons featuring Marvin the Martian ("that makes me angry, very, very, angry"). Haven't been called a face hugger, but was once called a "succubus" by an ex, which is not a compliment. Oh, well.

I was just thinking of my husband as a Vulcan this morning when we were shopping and he said "I fail to see the logic in looking at something you don't intend to buy."

At the moment, my son and myself are in San Juan California at an Anime' Fan Convention. Our hotel is filled with people dressed as various characters.

The young Asian girls in their costumes are so adorable I just want to pinch their cheeks! (Upper set).

At last I've found a milieu in which I seem normal.

    It is lovely.

I've only been compared to Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still (Michael Rennie.)
