Suppose you saw a piece of candy lying in the gutter. Would you pick up that candy and eat it? Of course not! That candy is unclean. Like that candy, holidays may seem sweet, but they have been picked up from unclean places.

What a crappy way to misapply an illustration!!! The obvious origin of that piece of candy was in a clean factory. Just because ONE piece ends up in the gutter, does that say anything for the millions of identical pieces that are still fit for consumption?

Some of you may recall the thread from a few days ago that pointed out that far from the opportunity of being saved, the delay means MILLIONS more people who have never been witnessed to will die a miserable death. I can never find the Watchtower that stated, more or less, that the date of Armageddon was set, but the date of the ~~start of the Great Tribulation~~ could be pushed forward in time. The reasoning, if I can remember, was that Jehovah could hold back the winds of the tribulation to allow more to come into the truth. The other thing I remember people reasoning (including, sadly, myself at one time) was that the closer the date of the start of the GT toward the Big A, the more intense the GT would be! I wish I could find that reference. I am sure it is changed on the 07 WT CD. I may have to dig through my old bound volumes.

Now this quote from the WT is steaming me. "This expression has been used"--- by whom? The WT!!!! Did they admit this? NO!!
Now it should be "avoided" because "This is not correct." But you will not see the WTS admitting that they were the ones who "implied" incorrect teachings, nor are they apologizing.
The inference is that the rank and file were incorrect......once again......

Quandry, I didn't even notice your point untill I read this post of yours. Good point!

Yaddayadda also noticed it was "a type" of a correction.....but not an admittance that THEY made a mistake.

This was a cheapass, chickenshit way to make a correction without having to admit it was THEM who had the former idea.

Had this subject been of a more serious nature......say an adjustment with regards to beastality and a publisher stuck to the old idea written in '65......they would be disfellowshipped for not following the SLAVES latest explanation like they actually did with "pornia" and it's meaning years ago. This was when a woman couldn't divorce her hubby if he commited beastiality.......then later they changed beastiality to "pornia" and she COULD divorce if he did.

How many have suffered like this through changing doctrine is anyones guess.

Fairmind, if she ever gets to that point and she'll read other material....order her "Index of Watchtower Errors" by David Reed. It has ALL of their flip flops and errors with refrences and is an excellent book for people like your wife.
