Amadeo Giannini was a Jesuit trained professional crook with ties to the Mafia. When you look at the banking system, just a small handful of banking dynasties own every other bank.

Find a credit union to join, or maybe Washington Mutual, they seem to have some pretty good offerings. I've always used credit unions myself.

we need to nip this illegal immagration in the bud before it's too late.

LMAO! I think it's a little too late for that. The bud's grown into a tree.......a while ago.

I prefer credit unions myself and had great concerns when my daughter wanted to use BoA for our household account. She has been extremely happy with BoA.

When I went to open the account I did let the very nice lady assisting me know that I had reservations. As nice as she was, there were some serious mistakes made (wrong mailing address on printed checks that actually went to the old address, etc). There was a $750 minimum to avoid a $25 monthly service fee. I deposited the $750 and ordered checks. Later that day I realized that when they deducted for the checks it would drop the balance below $750 and we would be charged $25 plus $18 for the checks. I immediately went back to the bank and deposited another $20 and told the lady why. I would have been very angry with her (and BoA) because she never mentioned to me that I should deposit more than the $750. Of course, it would have been my fault but I would have still been mad. She did code the account to waive the fees for 2 months.

Understand that you do not have to wait on the bank to send you a form to file your written dispute. (Some banks include a form on the back of your monthly statement.) If it was an electronic deduction, federal banking regulations allow them 10 business days from the day you formally notify them to investigate your dispute. If they have not completed their investigation within the 10 days, they must give you provisional credit until they do complete their investigation. That first 10 days is the painful part.

The bank must make you "whole" if they find you were not responsible for the error. If you are not made whole, file a written complaint to their federal regulatory agency. For BoA it is www.occ.gov.

Now that checks are being processed under the Check21 process, there are different protections in that new law also but they still have a certain timeframe within which they must process disputes.

If you dispute a check processed the old fashioned way there is a longer processing time and they have more ways to hold you responsible.

    Good luck

I am beginning to hate dealing with any big business. Any service that I pay for that is from some big business I have found lacking lately.

I'm especially looking at you, AT&T!

Yes, I despise them too. For me it started with something rather petty, back when they were still called Nations Bank. I was living in Baltimore, MD, and the city was trying to get a new football team to replace the Colts; Nations Bank was supposed to provide the loan for the city to buy the expansion franchise from the NFL commission. They backed out of the deal near the last minute, and financed another city instead.

Lest you think I'm a complete moron with shallow interests, at around that same time one of my best friends had an account with Nations Bank, and was always complaining about how their fees were the highest of any other bank. I also noticed that any ATMs owned by Nations Bank had the highest fees; this was around 1998 or so, when most ATMs were still only charging $1 or maybe $1.50, Nations Bank was charging $2 or $2.50 (now that's fairly standard).

They've kinda been the company I love to hate over the years, and I sort of keep track mentally of all the bad things I've heard about them, or experienced myself. Such as the fact that they were charging my wife $5 to cash a paycheck issued on Bank of America by her employer, because she didn't have an account with them. And while you might say much of this is standard money-grubbing by the banking business, Bank of America seems to lead the pack in greed...I've often shopped around over the years for cheaper banking (up until I joined my employer's credit union), and BoA was almost always the worst, unless you happened to have a couple grand to put into an account to get cheaper/free rates.

It was EFT I sent notice that I did not want them to go into my account any more, when the day came I went online and noticed that they had not taken the money the way they always do, three days later I notice that the money was taken, I called BoA and they just got me the notice last night, this would make it day nine.

Hey Spectre! I can not stand AT&T they are rude and the thought of calling them for anything makes me want to hurt a kitten.

Tetra! hi there it's been far too long, how have you been?

lola, the fact that this had been a pre-authorized deduction may complicate matters. Hopefully you have written documentation showing that you notified this company that they no longer had authorization to debit your account.

You may need to send the bank a copy showing the company no longer had authorization. You may also want to follow up with the company that made the "unauthorized" debit.

Sometimes it is very hard to get companies like AOL, exercise gyms, etc to stop making the withdrawals once you have given them authorization.

I hate that when mistakes are made by them on your account it takes them forever to fix them

I just had a strange charge on my account, over 200$ and that put me in the red. I diputed it, got it back, but they gave me the runa round on the overdraft they charged to it. Suffice it to say, this will slow me down and make making my student loan payment closer than I like to run it.

i had two accounts at Wa Mu a few years ago, but when i got sick and had medical bills, those got messed up.

i hate dealing with any large beurocratic corporation or govt agency. Dealing with Sallie mae for student loans is the worst; hours and hours playing runaround with them transfering you to so many different people.
