The CONSOLATION magazine dated May 27,1942 has a 16 page article on the WTB&TS vs San Diego Officials concerning the burial of J.F.Rutherford on the Beth-Sarim property. The petitions were eventually denied and Rutherford was buried in Staten Island,NY (WBBR grounds) on April 25,1942, a little over 3 months and 2 weeks after his passing(Jan.8,1942)

Rutherford wanted to be buried on the Beth Sarim property. Since it property wasn't zoned for burials the twonship refused, they took it to court and eventually lost. In the meantime, the Judge sat around waiting. But don't worry, all that Canadian whiskey kept him well preserved.
BTW ... some of you may have been reading Randy's bio in Freeminds, he mentioned how Fred Franz would often speak his mind, give his own thoughts in private. I knew someone who knew Franz well and just asked Freddy where Rutherford was buried and he just blurted out "Beth Sarim."

This was related to superstition displayed by Rutherford related to his burial. On Rutherford’s death Knorr and the Watchtower Society went to court in an attempt to have Rutherford buried at Beth-Sarim. As shown in the Consolation 1942 May 27 this was to do with Rutherford’s fanciful belief in the return of the "the King of the East” to Beth-Sarim and his need to face “the rising sun” upon that return. Knorr lost the case, but his action postponed Rutherford's burial for three and a half months after he died.
The Consolation tried to put a positive spin on it saying
"Judge Rutherford looked for the early triumph of "the King of the East", Christ Jesus, now leading the hot of heaven, and he desired to be burined at dawn facing the rising sun, in an isolated part of the ground which would be administered by the princes, who should return from their graves. Even his burial request was a token of faith."

jwfacts,
Strange request. Especially in that, if I understand correctly, Rutherford believed he would be "resurrected" to heaven when he died, didn't he? And that his physical body was "sacrificed"...making the location or orientation of his body of no real consequence.
