I think it would help the WTS loose less people than now. A lot of the loss they are experiencing is from disfellowshipped people not being reinstated. Franz claimed only about 1/3 return. This is probably even less now, as once people get disfellowshipped and stop going to meetings they break free from the mind control and are able to evaluate the WTS more objectively through the internet.
If wrongdoers were only 'marked', and allowed speak to friends at the meeting then they would be more likely to keep going and keeping active in the Watchtower indoctrination program.
Of course 'apostates' will always need to be disfellowshipped, as the WTS can not risk people alerting others that JW doctrine is a load of bollocks and why.

Damn right they would. Keeping everyone in line with fear doesn't work when you take the monster away, you know...

They would just call it disassociation and say that the person is choosing to shun the organization/JWs by their actions and are disfellowshipping themselves from the group.
Oh, they did do that with taking a blood transfusion.

Let all its members have free use of the internet. The net is the great equalizer that will be the proverbial bullet aimed at the heart of this vile cult.

The disfellowshipping process isn't the problem, it is scriptural to a degree, just not the degree the Society uses it.
