Well, I'll just say that there are a lot of people that claim to have had experiences with the occult and/or the paranormal. I have never experienced any of it; although people I grew up with claim that such things happened all around me. There are people all over the world that believe in angels, demons, UFO's, crop circles, Bigfoot, the Lochness Monster, etc. None of this has ever been proven. Can any of this ever be disproved? No. It's virtually impossible to prove a negative. However, I have to continue to work under the assumption that none of this is real. If somehow, someday I experience this, maybe I'll change my mind. But I'll probably go in for a psychiatric evaluation before I do. It might just mean that I'm becoming schizophrenic.
Has anyone ever played with a ouija board?

There are alot of typical JW mentalities in every group known to man. Democrat,Republican, Christian, just because someone believes in the bible and believes that there are evil spirits doesnt make them a JW or even a JW mentality.
I truly believe that what is behind the WT Society is nothing but demonic influences, I dont believe any religion could ever get by with so much and not be demonically helped. -

The thing about this whole situation is that people are naturally curious, once the board is able to predict a few things right, then people would get hooked.
That's a pretty good theory... If mine happens to work, I know I sure as heck ain't planning on stopping!

Essentially a ouija board is like channeling. A skeptic isn't trying to channel so it doesn't work.
You're taking my account of my father and implying that it doesn't work at all with skeptics. It works just fine, for some reason they didn't like my dad.
What about the case of the OP? It didn't want to continue until one person left. Others have changed the board's orientation while in session so I think they would count as skeptics.
For Ltn. Lore, usually they suggest that there are at least two people involved in the session. I'm not sure if it's a requirement or not. People that use it or have used it often strongly caution teenagers not to experiment with them.
As for debunking it, I haven't seen it done reliably yet. The tests done seem to contradict each other.
1) Yes/No question asked with board orientation changed. Result: Needle still moves to location where the yes/no answer would have been.
2) Member is blindfolded. Result: Now the user forgets where the letters are, and instead picks out random letters that spell out gibberish.
To me this is highly inconclusive. Why would your mind remember the board positioning in one case, but not the other?
If this is a common psychological phenomena, what would be another scientific application outside of a ouija board?
Why does it work with so many people? Including people that are otherwise unaffected by hypnotism.
I am easily won over by a good argument, but so far the argument against ouija boards isn't very strong. To me it seems more like a convenient explanation that suits the scientific curiosity, but lacks any real research or depth.
When researching any idea or theory, you need to be open to whatever the answer might be. If you start researching with the intent of debunking the claim, you will not critically evaluate evidence that might support it.
In my research, the scientific community still holds it as a bit of a mystery. They have offered numerous theories and ideas, but haven't been able to validate any of them in a controlled environment. If anyone has a source where this has been reliably tested, I'd be very interested in reviewing it. -

I should also mention that I don't believe the boards can predict the future. In experiences, many will try to convince the sitters that they have lived past lives and will fill their heads with tales of the past.
Many of the sessions involve the spirit channeling a dead person. Why? No clue.
I have my thoughts, but they are just unfounded speculation. -

Thanks for sharing that Paralipomenon.
As for fortune tellers, my mom used to go to them quite a bit, sometimes they would mention family members names. One time they told her the spirit of her Ex husband was standing in the room, mom said "which one" the lady said "Mike", When mom told me that I got in touch with Mike on the internet and he was still alive and kicking. I told mom not to waste anymore of her money on that psychic.
Mom also said the last psychic told her that she saw me in some kind of protest,------ possibly my picketing?
Well anyway I have only had one experience with a paid psychic and that was at a fair, nothing she told me amazed me, there was nothing aboslutely that shocked me, I was taken by a scam artist. But then again I already kinda had her pegged as a phony, I dont know why I did it, mostly out of curiosity . -

Why would your mind remember the board positioning in one case, but not the other?
Because there is a Yes or No button. And they are normally a lot bigger than the letters and numbers. You'd just have to remember "yes=top left" and "no=top right".
But to spell out a specific answer you'd have to remember where each individual letter is located.
I am easily won over by a good argument, but so far the argument against ouija boards isn't very strong.
I've never seen one work. And I've definately never seen one move while nobody touched it... How strong does an argument have to be to debunk something that has no evidence?

If there really is an afterlife, I'll bet the best way to contact it is through a plastic, mass-produced board game from Milton Bradley!

Don't mess with Ouija. If there is one bit of advice that you should take it is that. I am pretty much skeptical about stuff like that, but Ouija really screws you up. I've seen too many experiences. Ouija = bad stuff.

I know that glass moved of it's own free will....I felt the energy from it, go up my arms....it was really wierd
Holy shit Delilah....I don't think I'll be trying it anytime real soon. I've become a sceptic of the supernatural but lately I'm reforming to coming to believe there are really unseen entities. I'd like to get Funky Derek's ass scared to death so maybe that bastard would believe in something other than the obvious. He needs it.

The great thing about this modern age is that you don't have to try it at all if you are curious. You can just go and watch other ppl do it on Youtube:
