It makes no difference where you buy it from----those greedy bastards are reducing the production of oil and they actually closed one of the Petro Stations in Burlington the other day to keep the f**king prices as high as they are.

I am furious over this and have already written to my MP and I cc'd the Prime Minister too. I have no problem with these companies making a good profit but this is just gouging the hell out of us and the economy is starting to suffer. I spend $300 - $400 a month now in gas. I have to drive because there's no public transportation from my house to where I work and I sure as hell don't want to move there. I'm seriously considering buying one of those Smart Cars. I know one guy who drives about the same distance as me and even with prices the way they are, he only spends about $10.00/week in gas......Oh and by the way, for every 2 cents/litre the gas goes up, our government makes an additional $36,000,000.

Well, every summer I bike to work. My two bikes have already paid for themselves, and have saved me lots of money for the summer. But there's no way in hell I'm biking in the winter time.

Mary is correct, buying a vehicle that doesnt depend on gas the primary source of fuel will hurt the fuel companies the most.

But I would boycott Petro-Canada just for the fun of it.

This cannot work. It's actually an urban legend - look it up on snopes.

Gas companies make huge profits on their upstream operations (producing crude) and midstream operations (refining). They keep their retail arm extremely lean to discourage competition. You can't affect the upstream operations, because crude sells on the world market and you don't buy crude. You can't affect their midstream operations because all companies buy from the same refineries (they don't care who retails their product). So, hitting them in the retail arm is hitting them precicely where it doesn't hurt. The only one hurt is your local retailer.

Also, just think for a minute. If you take supply out of the system without reducing demand, prices don't drop - they rise.

As someone already mentioned, the only way to make prices drop is to reduce demand - use less gas.

Finally, about those stick shifts. I have seen people leave those in second gear for a whole block. They will leave it in third until they are going about 45

I drove a Mustang GT 5.0 5-speed up until last year. I had to keep the RPMs up otherwise she'd complain....... You can't lug an engine of that sort. Don't have it anymore.... Now I drive a granny car...

You've made very valid points though.

wtwizard had some very good ideas about conserving gas.money sticking out of gas tank

personally, I start my work from home but use my car 75-125 miles a day (not including trips to the office to pick up/drop off work), so I drive a lot. My car is 5 years old and already had over 140,000 miles on it (I put all but 38 miles on it) I spend over $300 per month on gas. I am at the gas station several times a week.

Since I make between 50-75 5 minute stops a day, I have started leaving my car running all day and just lock the car with a spare key. You would think I would get horrid mileage doing that, but no... I still get between 25-30 miles per gallon in the city doing this (running a Honda product, not hybrid). My mechanic said this will save wear and tear on my starter. I just had to have the transmission rebuilt because of my start/stop driving so I am trying to keep that trans in good shape.

I recently went out of town to work about 8 hours away, set the cruise control at 66 mph (averaged about 66.7 mph the whole trip)....I ended up getting 40 mpg on the way there and 42.7 mpg on the way home, which is much higher than it was rated new in 02.

here is a nice link with recommendations for better mileage: http://www.wisebread.com/gas-efficient-driving

Good morning JWD!!..Thank-you for all the replys!!..For some people, reducing thier gas consumption is not possible..If I didn`t have the vehicle I have. There would be times of the year I wouldn`t be able to get to civilization..My trips are carefully planned and gas consuption is kept to a minimum..Still..It costs alot.....I don`t think reducing gas consumption would reduce gas prices..The bastards would just charge more, for less gas..I doubt any gas executive is willing to take a pay cut..I doubt any one invested in the company will be willing to take a pay cut..Keep those Profits UP!!.....I know many are not buying from Petro-Can,I am told there are many more on the band wagon.....Will it work?..I have no idea..But..It`s worth a shot...OUTLAW
