YOUR Good Deed....

Thank YOU for YOUR help in my time of need.

I woke up thinking of a childhood television program - "Father Knows Best." In the episode most memorable to me, the youngest child, Kitten (Kathy) was sitting on a park bench next to an old man, chirping away in her usual chatty, happy way. She offered him a piece of gum.
Fast forward - the details are sketchy, but I recall that somewhat later the family received a letter, thanking the little girl for her small act of kindness. The old man died, I believe, and had left Kitten $500. Well, that's what I remember. And remember fondly, though half a century later.

Do you recall someone's kindness in the past that has affected you to this day?

i am kind of lucky in that acts of kindnesses come my way all the time - true there are the acts of unkindness too but on the whole i largely feel really lucky. They could be the very kind and encouraging and complimentary PMs from friends on the board - in particular yesterday DJK, BFD, Misanthropic and Rebel 8 - you sent me compliments and kind thoughts and that really helped me through a day where I felt rather low.

In terms of physical acts of kindness - a squeeze of the hand or a friendly voice on the phone are always welcome.

Most recently my ex came to my financial rescue when I discovered I am in a terrible mess and have nothing to get by on for the rest of the month. Not enough to play with but enough to stop it getting worse until I get paid again.

I was kicked out of my house in college, and lived in my car for a week and a half, when one of my college classmates found me asleep in my car on school property early in the morning and asked what I was doing there. I broke down and told her what had happend, and that very day she went with me to my house, helped me break into it to get the rest of my belongings out and insisted that I move in with her, no questions asked. She didn't even really know me other than a couple of classes we took together. She also is a wiccan (not that this really factors in worth a load of anything, but I had just left the Jehovah's witnesses for their LOVE and was honestly shocked at this kindness from a practical stranger).

Needless to say, we're the best of friends, Sisters from other mothers, truly. I love her so much for what she's done for me. It has been returned both ways ten-fold. We owe each other so much, that we will never die. ;)

Got kicked out - several people offered me a home, one guy gave me £200 to keep me going.

my mother in law did a kind thing for me last week...she gave me back my razor blade she borrowed....the thing is ...it used to be a gillette mach 5 and it has come back as a single bladed bic (tough chin stubble that woman)...I repaid her kindness with a friendly squeeze of her neck with every ounce of strength in my hands....I love that woman...and I know it's reciprocal....

At a train station with my heavy bicycle I was confronted with 50 ascending stairs - a very kind gentleman in a city suit carried my bike all the way to the top. So kind.

Can't think of anything specific at the moment, but every time I get made to feel rubbish or useless by someone, another person seems to come along and counter that feeling.

Nothing to boast about, but what was to be done ?

Have you ever seen a begging JW ?

One afternoon, in a subway train corridor, I caught sight of a man, aged about 55, who had neatly unfolded a pair of AW mags, was sitting on them and was rather ostensibly reading a NWT Bible. A goblet was near him, showing evidently that he was begging for money. I left a coin in his goblet, our eyes met but right then I didn't know what to do, the situation was so unusual, and I walked past him. I was feeling terribly guilty and after a short while I retraced my steps in order to talk to him and see what I could do to help. Then, before he could see me coming back, I noticed that the coin I had just left a few seconds earlier in the goblet was gone... I was taken aback and decided to do nothing. With hindsight, I still wonder if this man was in real need and was calling for aid to fellow JWs.
