Tori Amos
Tori has an amazing voice, probably one of the best female voices. I like too many to name and it's hard to pick a favorite.
I must say that I lean way more towards the Frank Zappas than I do the Charlotte Churchs or Michael Crawfords.
Give me a voice with individuality, some gravel and grit and real living in it - a Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Fred Eaglesmith, Chris Knight or a Jon Dee Graham. Of course, these guys are incredible songwriters and not just pretty voices. Listen to this performance of Cohen's "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley, a performance that has gained almost mythic status following Buckley's untimely death a few years ago.

That's how a great song should be sung.

My own!
I love it when I am happy and singing! I feel so alive then!
And my mother's when she was alive!
There are so many singers in the world, like so many lovely song birds.

SInce Judy Garland was mentioned, how about the French Judy Garland -- Edith Piaf? She is the subject of a new movie "La Vie En Rose".
Sadly she only lived 47 years - up to 1963. Check out this video of her singing La Vie En Rose (translation = The Life in Pink). Magnifique.
OK, I guess no one else is going to say it, so I will. JOSH GROBAN. There. (surprise, surprise )
