Right I need the help of someone who knows their bible. I’ve been out of the truth too long and have forgotten the info I’m looking for.

I once did a school assignment on what was basically the parable of the prodigal son, only it wasn’t that. I’m sure my talk was about a king and his son. I seem to remember making a point of the fact that although the son was scared to go back to his father his father swallowed his pride and arranged to meet him half way.

The parable of the prodigal son talks about the father seeing his son away off and going to meet him but I'm sure the scripture I gave a talk on talked about the father discussing meeting half way and that the son was afraid / ashamed to go back.

Does anyone know what I’m talking about ? Is there a similar story about a king that met his son half way, or is my memory messed up?

If you know what I’m talking about do you know the scriptures?

    David and Absalom?

(2 Samuel 14:28-33) 28 And Ab´sa·lom continued dwelling in Jerusalem for two full years, and the face of the king he did not see.......... 32 So Ab´sa·lom said to Jo´ab: "Look! I sent to you, saying, ‘Come here and let me send you to the king, saying: "Why have I come from Gesh´ur? It would be better for me that I should still be there. And now let me see the face of the king and, if there is any error in me, he must then put me to death."’" 33 Subsequently Jo´ab came in to the king and told him. Then he called Ab´sa·lom, who now came in to the king and prostrated himself to him, [falling] upon his face to the earth before the king; after which the king kissed Ab´sa·lom.

You sure it was a story in de bible?

    Maybe Jacob & Esau?

Jacob was afraid of meeting Esau, after rooking his birthright, but met him halfway, and all was hunky-dory?

Don't know the exact location - somewhee in the middle of Genesis.

    Hello Mr Hyde -

There is an Hasidic parable. A king had a son whom he loved very much. Unfortunately, as the son was growing up, the king began to see that he was heading on the wrong path. The son's behavior became more and more difficult, and the king realized that he could not keep him in the palace.

The king sent his son to a far off village to be raised in the home of peasants. There his officers and spies were able to keep an eye on him and see how he was doing. The king's son grew up in the village, but always maintained a memory of the palace where he was born.

One day the young man said, "I am the son of a king, and I must return to my father." He began the long and difficult journey. Soon messengers came to tell the king, your son is on your way home.

The king immediately broke into tears. He told his servants, "I know it is a difficult journey. Go load up my carriage right away. I will travel and meet my son half way."

Folklore, legend, imagination, wishful thinking and so on.

Why not make up your own parable or fable - that's what people did before television came along?

Well on the point of the father meeting him half way, its more than that - he spied him far off and RAN TO MEET HIM and did everything to make it alright for his son.
