Older people in churches versus older people at the Kingdom Hall

Well, my grandparents (the ones who told me to stay away from jw's!) are happy.

I thknk that most people in church are happy to be there, contrast that with the JW's where people feel obligated to go.

Even the children are for the most part happy to be in church, you dont see alot of kids being beaten into submission in church like you do the kingdom hall.

My church in Kentucky is a small country church, yet they always do their best to include the kids, even first time visitors like my little niece Darby.

I remember when I attended the meetings that I constantly looked at my watch waiting for it to be over, now when I go to church I actually hate to see it end (except for dinner on the grounds-LOL)

Inmates is a a good term to describe the JW's--doing their time at the Kindom Hell.

    Great Topic!

This is something I too have noticed, the completely different mentality. Older non JWs like to 'do things' go out, have a good time, go on holiday etc

My parents ONLY go to meetings and shopping and an occassional day trip. My mother refuses to go on holiday this year at all as 'the end is so close' and I suspect she's afraid she'll lose her brownie points incase Armageddon begins!

They have no life except as servants to the Watchtower.

The C of E couple up the road, go out for dinner several times a week at a local pub, go for long weekends away and holidays, pensioners clubs etc and have made preparations for their old age.

My mother refused to work from age 50 and has very little pension, (though between them my parents are not short of money) they just refuse to spend it on anything good for themselves. No doubt the WT is benefiting from their silliness.

    Too Bad So Sad

I went back and read many of your posts. I enjoy your wit and take on things. Funny how we could sit and hear the same words over and over for more than thirty years and not run out screaming.

Your question to your wife about the "Special Talk" and if it's so special what does she remember from last year's talk really made me laugh.

Here is a thought from one of your posts:

These older ones did not fear death and no doubt have prepared for their golden years all throughout their life.

The Witnesses are taught and believe that they only have true happiness. They need to be around "worldly"

people, who have faith in God to see what it is really like to be happy,

I recently went to a group meeting of alot of ladies that are from different churches that get together to socialize and just talk about how God has enriched their lives, etc. and found them to be sincere, caring people. It was very emotionally disturbing to me after all those years in the Khall. They really have faith without all the droning on and on about death and destruction of everyone in the world.

Anyway, wanted you to know how much I enjoy your posts and your take on things.

The JWs are not even Christians though they would dispute this. They are not members of the body of Christ and live in a strained and artificial environment that is beyond the real world with false hopes and expectations. Under such conditions they can't be normal and wholesome people or society.
