The vet is coming today to our home. I'll let you know how it turns out.

$417.65 dollars later, it was not an abscess but a fluid filled pocket due to trauma. He didn't have to drain it but withdrew some fluid to be sent to the lab. He put both dogs on antibiotics but everything was almost healed. The vet said they were exceptionally well behaved dogs.
Yes it was my 2 dogs that fought. First time since I have owned them. (one year). One is 8 and the other is 4.

Wow r!
Our vet bill wouldn't be a quarter of that! Perhaps it's because he comes to your home?
I'm glad you got the problem fixed w/the vet. I think I would definitely take them separately on walks from now on.

Expensive, but worth knowing everything will be ok.
They may have been fighting to establish dominence. IF they have, it shouldn't happen again.

The house call is a flat $55.00 which is worth it to me instead of trying to load up two big dogs. I think he may charge more for all the other stuff. There is a lot of antibiotics.....I won't see the actual bill until he mails me a receipt.
I am SOOO relieved they're OK.

My question is, before I call the vet over for the cost of $500.00.. to $1000.00
I would try calling different vets. I would think you should be able to get a course of antibiotics for 50 to 100$. Any way call around and talk to people. My wife has gone to a lot of different vets over the years, trying to find reasonable prices.

Glad to see they are both healing up. I worked as a vet assistant for several years while I was in school. That is the only reason I even have any animals, otherwise it would be way too expensive. You can buy antibiotics at any feed store along with the needles and syringes. I keep several 30ml plastic tipped syringes to flush out abscesses with hydrogen peroxide.
Odds are 99% that there will be a "round 2" and you will be doing this all over again. Getting them neutered may help but I really think that it's cheap entertainment for them. I have even had female dogs that "got into it" a few times.
