Machiavelli also said "to rule is to decieve". Thing about that in relation to the witnesses.

I read most, if not all of 'The Prince', Machiavelli's work. One of the most relevant things he said was that a leader need not actually be righteous or anything of that sort; all he has to do is give the appearance of such.

That sums it up for me.

Another thing: Machiavelli also wrote that if one takes action against an enemy, one must make sure that one eliminates all possibility of reprisal. Hence, DF'ing. Also fits.

The Prince and Plato's Republic are the top books for political science majors to read. Machiavelli, who was Florentine and counselled the Medicis, was the first person to be candid about politics. Most of the others wrote about an ideal political universe, More's Utopia. He advised nothing so ruthless. Academic don't view him as ruthless. B/c the book was candid, his name became linked with ruthlessness in a way that is unfair. To call a present day political scientist, Machiavellian, would be a great compliment.

The WT is very Machiavellian. Of all the political philosophers I studied, Machiavellian fits the bill the best. The odd thing is that the Medicis were secular rulers. Members of the family were popes and cardinals. The WT insists it is godly. Machiavelli would write a great response about the behavior of the Witnesses.
