I am not a witness but I would like to ask you a question. Is it common practice for jw's to will all of their "worldly" possessions to witness relatives only? Are they encouraged to do so by the borg? I found out recently that my in-laws, who are jw's have done so and their sole beneficiary is their eldest son who happens to be an "elder". Just wondering if this is typical behavior. Thank you for your comments.

Do Not Call
Hi sweetums,
Can't speak for all JWs, but I think that would be the plan for most of them, judging from what I've seen over the years.
My JW relatives actually went to their solicitor and had their son taken out of their wills when he disassociated himself.
Nice people! -

Hello sweetums and welcome to JWD!
I can only imagine the thinking behind this is that the JW's don't want any monies being used for anti-JW stuff at least that's all I can think of. Myself and my brother who are the only two non believers in our family were recently notified that we are not inheriting any funds from our Mother when she passes away and that the estate will be handled by our sibling who is an Elder and dispensed to the care of our other living sibling for health care concerns. I mostly saw this as a theocratic move on her part.
I understand the *coff, coff* logic behind her wishes and have no problem with it as it will all go to the care of my sibling not so much to the WTS, we aren't talking loads of money here......sigh.

Thank you for your replies. You have confirmed what I already suspected. I found out quite by accident that my in-laws did so. My mother-in-law was not happy that I knew about it. Obviously she wanted to keep it a secret from the rest of her non-witness children. When I confronted her about it, the first thing she said to me was, "Satan must have helped you find this out"... (no actually, it was the clerk of court who to knowledge doesn't go by the alternate name of Satan).
I asked her why she would do such a thing and she replied that, "She didn't want to, but that she had to." Which leads me to guess that either they are encouraged to by the org. or else this was my father-in-laws decision and since he is the head of the family, she has to abide by his decisions... regardless of the fact that the man has advanced dementia and is on medicine for alzheimers.

JW's have got to be the most superstitous, ignorant, uneducated MORONS.
Do they realize how IGNORANT they sound?
No, because they are brainwashed sheep who follow the borganization without their own thoughts.
Sorry this has happened to you...
some JW's are actually kind hearted and caring, but many, are like your mother-in-law - STUPID & SELFISH.

Awe sweetums don't let this sucky religion divide your family any worse than it obviously has after all it's their money and they are doing with it now what they want why not after they die?
I have a friend who always says how much he will inherit when his parents die as if that money will still be there regardless of the funds needing to be used for long-term health care of his elderly parents. It frustrates me because it's not his now and he shouldn't count on it ever being his, his parents worked hard for that money not him!
It's just money, here today gone tomorrow, and can be replaced by the living......I would rather celebrate the life behind the money which cannot be replaced, not the money, but thats just me.
When I confronted her about it, the first thing she said to me was, "Satan must have helped you find this out"... (no actually, it was the clerk of court who to knowledge doesn't go by the alternate name of Satan).
Although someone calling me the Devil's helper might make me a bit cranky!

Believe me bikerchic it did make me cranky! I thought, since when does Satan help you find out the truth? They drew up this will ten years ago and I just recently found out about it. I would have preferred that they were honest and above board and just tell us what their intentions were. That's all I ever wanted from them was honesty... I suppose that's too much to ask for.

As far as JWs are concerned, exJWs especially, and non-JWs in general, are unworthy of any consideration of any kind from them, particularly where money is involved.
If they have no loyal JW relatives to whom to bequeath their estate, often times they are Encouraged™ to leave everything to the local congregation or to the Watchtower Society. There is an annual WT article - every December for as long as I can recall - dedicated to instructing the flock on the proper way to make donations to the WTS. There is even a brochure that individuals can request from the WTS about donating to the organization.

After we began our fade, my MIL began ringing my husband's grandmother regularly to tell her we were no longer going to the meetings. She suggested she change her will in favour of herself and my brother in law. However, Grandmother would not do that as she and my husband were very close and they discussed regularly what his mother was 'reporting to Grandma'. She was willing to allow him be and started to lose interest in 'da troof' herself. The change in the generation doctrine of 1914, made in 1995 affected her badly as she was in her nineties and had believed with her whole heart that she would never die. She had been a JW since her birth. Sadly she died a few years ago now.
So yes, JWs do not like Non JWs, and worse still ex JWs to receive anything that they could have got instead.
