All a bunch of whining! Elders should "comfort" such ones, but not "tickle their ears".
This PO views himself as quite loving, by the way.

He's been an elder / overseer for 40+ years, and in his own mind can do no wrong. It is virtually impossible to reason with him.

Maybe they are just complaining about the "end so near" not arriving yet.
Maybe they are just complaining about the elders' not caring for the flock tenderly.
Maybe they are just complaining about harsh treatment by the organization.
Maybe they are just complaining about not understanding why they change doctrines.
Maybe they are just complaining about the lack of respect they receive from talks such as that one about whiners.
Maybe they are just complaining about their retirement savings being so low.
Maybe they are just complaining about going out in field service just to satisfy a sheet of paper (publisher's record).
Maybe they are just complaining about missing out on LIFE ITSELF.
The elder should be happy to have a cong. full of whiners. They could just get smart and leave.

in my experience people tend to complain when they are not appreciated and personally demotivated.
Perhaps a change of perspective (ie get the fook out of there) might help.
I think the PO is right, really. Isn't that the way most people are----especially if their hopes are repeatedly dashed?
Especially if the reason why is based on jealousy, lies, hate, pettiness, nepotism, etc.
