That's kinda my point SE and AO. Are those of us not having those "special" experiences doomed to damnation. Isn't the Bible by itself supposed to be enough? In other words, shouldn't the truthfulness of it's message be universally apparent to all, including those who've never read it or heard about it? I ask this sincerely and respectfully.
Without wishing to have a hundred fundamental Christians jump on me, I will respond...
As I went to sleep last night, it was on my mind that I hadn't responded to this question on the other thread. I started to think... How is someone REALLY saved?
I cannot imagine for a split second that God will damn anyone just because they missed the message, or couldn't get to grips with the degree-level theology that some insert into Bible study.
I questioned Baptism as a means to salvation. But the thief on the cross was going to "paradise", and I doubt that he was baptised. Symbolic, but I imagine unnecesary.
I then pondered the Lord's Prayer. It sort of implies KARMA (as does much of Jesus' teachings).
Then the following snagged in my head.
Mat 5:3
God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!
and this...
Matthew 6:7-15 CEV
[7]
When you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers. [8]
Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask. [9]
You should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name. [10]
Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven. [11]
Give us our food for today. [12]
Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others. [13]
Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil. [14]
If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you. [15]
But if you don't forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Maybe that's it. That was the gist of Jesus' message: Love God, Love others.
That message makes sense, with or without the Bible.
In the book, "The Water Babies", there was a lady called "Mrs DoAsYouWouldBeDoneBy". Karma, and Jesus' message rolled into one.
