yes, the best outcome would be that you go to the doctor, get all kinds of tests, and then get told that you're OK. I hope you let us know the results.

Im glad you are going to the doctor. It could be anything from gall bladder to a mild heart attack. I remember when I was 22, I had a strong sharp pain in the middle of my chest. I went home and was so scared, I thought I was having a heart attack. I didnt have any health insurance, so I just waited it out.

I most likely have gallbladder/hiatal hernia, or other gastric abnormalities. Once I determined it wasnt a heart attack, I didnt worry much with it after that. Im now 36 years old, and every once in a while I still get a sharp pain in my chest that usually lasts from 5-10 minutes.

Please let us know what the doctors diagnosis is.

There is another possibility which may be more likely considering Rich's youth,

Kidney stones. While the symptoms were possibly consistent with a Gallbladder attack, and I've had mine removed so I know, he didn't mention a gas problem, something which often accompanies the other symptoms with that one. Gallbladder problems are not all that common in younger folks. Kidney stones, on the other hand, can happen anytime. All one really needs is to work hard in the heat without drinking enough fluids to have an attack of those.

I would want to know whether he'd just eaten a fatty breakfast or had been doing a lot of work in the heat. I would also want to know if he'd had to belch a lot more than usual.

Richie. Do you have a fever or is your temperature below normal?

I have had pains like you describe a few times this year they last maybe 5 minutes and have come after a really strenuous work out in the gym and my body starts cramping up. They come within about 24 hours of the work out.

Have you exerted your body any way recently that would make the muscles cramp. Heavy lifting etc?

I reread your post there you are About 10am this morning I was following my roommate down the interstate (helping him move a few things) and all of a sudden, I had the worst pain I've ever felt in my belly.

helping him move a few things. You lifted something heavy and cramped up. When it happens to me it feels like a heart attack but. I think it through and know that I just spent an hour in the gym lifting thousands of pounds.

Appendicitis is the worst pain I ever had (after the spinal tap mind you) but it doesn't "go away" like your symptoms seem to have. It just gets worse. The pain I felt was lower in my abdomen more to the right side as I recall.

Don't know about gall bladder problems; never had that.

I too have had symptoms like what you describe though mine wasn't near my stomach at all but a very intense pain in the middle of my chest, a "tight" feeling like someone was standing on it. This was not due to exercise or strenuous activity. Breathing was difficult and a few times I would wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, doubled over in pain. I saw the doctor, had some tests done including EKG with no abnormal results. I was on beta blockers for a time and was prescribed nitro (glyceryl trinitrate) for a time just in case. I was under a lot of stress at the time and wasn't eating well. Sawbones seems to think it could be gastroesophageal reflux disease but it's been over 6 months since and I haven't had a recurrance. Something I'm keeping an eye on.

Nonetheless, I'm glad you went to see the doc. Best not to take any chances.

    Take care.
