Maybe this is just me - I'm a paranoid and skeptical ol' coot - but when you call the state records people, ask them if there is any chance this could be a scam of some sort. In fact, I would suggest you approach this with caution and discreet suspicion at each turn. I hope it all comes out well for you, but you know how that goes...
