I guess that most congs have some strange habitual behaviour. I have kept a mental list of the strange copycat behaviuor I have seen.

Brothers buying the same style suit from the same suppliers........

    Sisters getting the same hairstyle.........

Brothers and sisters getting the same ministry bags, folders etc....

Brothers marrying sisters from certain countries or districts.....................

    Brothers learning the same trade............

    Brothers getting the same jobs..............

Sisters all getting kids at the same time...............

Brothers and sisters getting the same health stuff.........

    Teaching kids at home............

    What have you seen?

Well when I was a kid, I would find all kinds of moneymaking schemes in magazines. My Dad would counsel me against those.

Well a few years down the road and Dad is looking to quit his good paying job and move where the "need was greater". He gets bitten by the money making scheme bug. Now a complete role reversal, I was trying to talk him out of quitting his job, and trying to talk some sense into him about those schemes.

You know I would get so bothered hearing about those schemes by the JW's, I would just think to myself "why not just get an education like normal americans and then get a real job?"

Remember the Liver Cleansing Diet? Just as I started my fade everyone in my cong was into that, elders and all.

    Teaching kids at home............

Yep, there was a few of them as well. Not wanting their kids hanging around 'bad associates'.

When I was a kid, the whole "Witness School" thing was a big deal in most of the congregations.

In one cong I attended there were a lot of hairdressers and in another a lot of roofers.

Most of this stuff isn't any stranger than "a lot of [name of group] immigrants open restaurants." Somebody discovers some opportunity, and all this friends-and-relations home in on it.

Same thing is true of so many jaydubs getting their litterature bags from the same few suppliers: it's no different from the few businesses whose entire revenue comes from selling stuff the Amish will buy.
