I see this for sale everywhere, but is it available for download in pdf format? (scanned image)
I'm assuming the copyright has expired on these works and it's all public domain..so why is it still being sold?

You are correct - the copyright has expired, so YOU can go collect them all, scan them all, and then give your work away for free if you place no value on your time. I'm sure you'll be rushing right out to do that, won't you?
Copyright has expired on the original works, but NOT on the fresh new presentation of those works in a new media. That's why Research Applications, Inc. for example, can claim a copyright on the CDROMs that they produce and sell.
Surely you aren't asking someone to buy the CDs and then disrespectfully make the contents available for freeloaders, are you?
ARE YOU?

Actually...
Yes I would like to see public domain works be in the public. There are some major efforts online to accomplish just this. Please see:
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page
http://books.google.com/bkshp?tab=wp
http://books.google.com/intl/en/googlebooks/about.html
I'm thankful to all who spend time scanning and uploading public domain works as it assists the flattening of information. -

...and you'll belly up to the table, even if it is stocked with stolen goods, but you won't participate in the process, will you?

No, I didn't mention stolen goods. I'm interested in public domain works here.

I wasnt sure of what you meant by Rutherford's Rainbow so I checked it out and funny thing is my grandfathers library has almost everyone of those books. In fact I have the "Harp of God" in my posession as I borrowed it from him. I even remember flipping through "the way to paradise" which was in my old cong's library. I didnt know it could be worth anything!
Well for the record, the Harp of God is like a recap of many other books. Rutherford even makes comments about not going into all the details for the book could not contain all the information, and he directs the reader to other books. I was specifically interested in the statements about 1925. All the timelines for 1799 to 1914 were interesting also........

What Nathan said....
The RAI CD is not public domain
In order for a PDF version of the Rainbow to be public domain, someone else will have to scan the books compile the PDF's and relinquish any and all claims on the finished product.

Is anyone willing to donate the books for this project? I will gladly donate my time to scan these and publish them.

Another reason I'd like to donate my time.
This information needs to be out there for current JW's and other researchers. It may help some who are on the fence, trying to decide if they need to get out. A scanned image of the book in question would be very helpful in some cases, I know it would in mine. -

Out of curiousity - how many books are included in the collection that is called Rutherford's Rainbow? That must be an extensive list - all the guy had to do was write books and drink bootleg liquor at Beth Sarim.
I saw a list once, but don't know where.
