    YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but your waiter may know! YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATHThis is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read .
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

    1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)

    2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

    3. Add 5

    4. Multiply it by 50

    5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757...
    If you haven't, add 1756.

    6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number. (I.e., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

    The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!!!)THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2007) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS

i am trying to figure out how it works. i know it's only math, but i suck at math. i tried 4 different numbers and it worked out to my age every time. i know it's simple and has something to do with your year of birth and the number 2007, just trying to make the connection. another cool thing is, take a tape measure. put the end of it to the at 107" mark next year 108" and so on. now, read the tape, your age and year of birth will line up.

How will that work for someone that doesn't eat out except rarely like once a month? Not everyone is into the fashion of eating out regularly.

This only works if you were born between January 1 and June 30th, 1907, between January 1, 1908 and December 31, 2006, or between June 30th, 2007 and December 31, 2007.

It has nothing to do with how many times you eat out. Quite simply, you're taking a random number between 2 and 9. Now, if you multiply any number by 2, you will get an even number. Furthermore, if we take any even number and add 5, we will get an odd number. This then follows that we will be multiplying 50 by an odd number, which necessarily means we will end up with a number ending in 50. Now, when we add either 1756 or 1757, we will get a number ending with 06 or 07 respectively. The problem assumes we were all born within the middle part of the 20th century, which most everyone living now was. Given this circumstance, the numbers 1756 and 1757 were chosen to be such that we will only have a range of between 2 and 9 for the first digit of our three digit answer, and subtracting from our known number ending in either 06 or 07 will render our 2 digit age. Pretty straight forward, but sounds much more complicated than it is typed out.
