Just got a phone call

  I learned last week that my father is in the hospital and will be there a while, so I'm planning to fly out next week. He's not critical, but it may be time to start talking about nursing homes. He's not pleasant to deal with, but it has to be taken care of.

  I think seeing your dad is a good idea. It's better not to look back and possibly regret not going. I'm going through some family hassles too, but I know this will probably be the last time I will see him due to the distance and expense.

  I am so sorry to hear about your Dad!! If it was me I would immediatley go. I wouldn't show up angry, although you have every right to be. But I would tell your Mom and Brothers, you just couldn't hold back and stay away any longer. You knew they may need your love and support. But most of all you would never forgive yourself if something happened and you weren't there. Lay it on heavy. Maybe she felt she needed to at least say that to you, so if questioned by the elders, she can tell them she tried to get you to stay away. But inside she and your brothers may be relieved you are there. I of course do not know your family. But even if you are sure they would not be receptive, I would still go and let your Dad know you where there, and that you would have come sooner had you known.

  Please keep us informed as to how he is doing...Anyhow..there is my two cents.

  I work in the medical field and due to HIPAA you won't be able to get anything at all over the phone. Hugs to you and hope you can see your Dad.
