    Hi ya,

Was wondering about the meetings. I believe I read somewhere that there are 5 meetings per week at the KHs. What days are these held? Are they ALL EVENING meetings, besides Sunday morning?

If a person is NOT baptized yet, I know they're encouraged to attend all the meetings. But if one IS baptized, are they REQUIRED to attend all the meetings. If they don't, do the Elders put pressure on them?

Thanks so much for the help. Not ever being on the "inside"....I'm trying to understand the workings of this cult. Our son is tragically being sucking into this organization.

If my memory serves me right, they have the usual:

Book Study about an hour at someones home.

A 2 hour long bore-fest during the week.

Personal bible study aprox. 1 hour.

Sunday service bore-fest #2 about another 2 wasted hours.

For some reason they loves Tuesdays & Thursdays for meetings and bible study, I think it's a conspiracy since all the good shows on on then.

2 meetings on sunday. The public Talk followed by the Watchtower study. 2 meetings on tuesday or thursday. Theocratic school followed by the Service meeting. Bookstudy usually held on tuesday or thursday at a private home. mIf you are baptized great pressure comes to bear to attend all weekly meetings or you could be marked AS SPIRITUALLY WEAK AND shunned...

"....I'm trying to understand the workings of this cult

The idea is to keep one as busy as possible with their teachings, meetings fieldservice and personal study (with approved WTS material) as possible to prevent you from thinking on your own and straying from the fold...

    Thanks Dragonlady and zeroday.

"Borefest" is RIGHT. I've heard they bore you to distraction!

And the way they take up SO MUCH of your time. Crikey. Yep, that would be a good way of keeping you separated from society. (and possibly finding out what bunk it all is!)

Yes, in fact there are 5 meetings per week. The trick is that they count the public snoozefest and the Craptower Study as two separate meetings, even though they are in one trip on Sunday morning or afternoon. The Theocraptic Misery "School" and the "Service" Meeting also count as two, even though they are segued in one trip. The Book Study is one hour and counts as one.

That is why the confusion. There are in fact five separate parts, but only three trips to the Kingdumb Hell or someone's home for these meetings. Tuesday and Thursday evenings are most common for the Theocraptic Misery "School" and "Service" Meeting and the Book Study, likely because the best TV shows are on then (of course, the TiVo would solve that problem) and because the best college courses and jobs require working those nights. The cult wants people to abandon those things so they can focus on recruiting.

There is no point in going. The Theocraptic Misery School only teaches people to give talks that are effective in spreading the scam; the "Service" Meeting teaches people what to say to scam people at the doors. It also teaches the latest flipflops that aren't big enough for the Craptower magazines. The Public Snoozefest always gives a segment on why the world is messed up (because people aren't Witlesses) and the "solution" (having everyone that creates value get destroyed because they aren't screeching around in the misery). The Craptower study is where the real hard doctrine gets pushed and is a total waste, since Blondie always has a nice write-up on this forum every Saturday. The Book Study is another waste. You are better off studying in college or watching TV--or working.

    Thanks WT!

What happens if you miss a meeting or two? Do the Elders actually call you up or something??

I still get confused about the meetings because people on the board give approx times here but my jw's schedule is longer! Tues he is gone a good 3 hours, Thurs at least 2 1/2 hours, Sat another 3 or so, Sunday at least 3 or so again. I have no idea what the heck he is doing the extra time, they can't all run over! Then there is the times he goes off somewhere to study the damn things! Sadly the child left at home says things like, 'oh good it's Tues/Thurs he won't be home'. If he knew I don't think it would break his heart, they have done something to his ability to really feel emotions I think. So no, I don't tell him. Why bother.

PS- don't forget about the district conventions and special assembly days.

Missing an occasional meeting is usually not noticed but if you start missing alot of meetings they will probably call on you at home to encourage you or to find something on you (if you're missing alot of meetings you must be sinning ). If you are baptized they own you and will stop at nothing to find a reason to disfellowship you or till you disassociate yourself...
