I was an MS and a pioneer at about your age. I had a love/hate relationship with pioneering--I loved the good feeling that came from doing what was "right" and the fellowship with my brothers and sisters, we had a congregation with 25 pioneers in it. I hated the actual ACTIVITY of pioneering, which was obviously, to my objective young mind, a huge waste of time and energy with tenuous at best Biblical justification.
I really liked being an MS though. I was always an excellent reader and speaker and I had great organizational skills and I enjoyed the attention I got. I was young! Now I realize how facile and vain it was, but at the time it was great.
Former or Current Elders, MS, Pioneers.......Did you enjoy these positions?

Did them all, plus assembly overseer, Pioneer School instructor, Special Committee chair and more.
I loved a lot of it. It's a great ego massager, and I often felt that I was really making a difference for some people.
In time, when I began to take a closer look at the cost to others and to my own family, I stepped down. I was devastated for about 24 hours, and then a huge boulder seemed like it had been rolled off my back. The PO and the visiting CO came to me and seriously urged me to reconsider. I was a circuit star, after all. If they had come the night before, I'd have probably given in, but because they waited a day or two from my notice that I was stepping down, and I had a chance to recover from that (my identity was closely connected with my "theocratic privileges), I told them there was no way I was going to reconsider my decision. It was one of the first major steps on my way out.
I'm so glad to be away from that really sick and disfunctional arrangement.

I'm currently a MS. I have done parts/dramas in DC's and CA's. I have done also public talks. Have taken myself off 90% of the stuff. When I do a #1 talk, I just cut/paste the stuff from the WT lib CD in 10minutes time,
I go to meetings, and spend 1/3 the time in the bathroom playing solitaire.
In short "I hate it"!
MY mom sees all the lies that the "truth" says, but believes that "it is good for the family". she talk out of both sides of the wall!
I am getting closer and closer to handing in my ms resignation

I was a Ministerial Servant for a few years (which included my time at Bethel). The only part of it that I enjoyed was getting to give Service Meeting parts and Instruction Talks. The rest of the responsibilities weighed heavily on me. I couldn't keep up with the unwritten quota of field service hours that is expected for a MS; and was eventually removed for not keeping up my hours.

I was a pioneer and enjoyed the "glory", and the perks. It was the going door to door that killed me. What a waste of time.
I had lots of Bible studies, and I enjoyed those. They saved my sanity until I finally couldn't take it anymore.
4 years later, we were gone.

Happy Birthday RF! Have a good one!
My husband was a MS shortly after we were baptized as there was a shortage of help. He only liked it because it gave him an excuse not to be sitting all the time. LOL Also, just made his stay a little more interesting he said.
Myself as a pioneer - I did not want any glory from anyone. I did it because I felt like I should do more for Jehovah - you know all the talks about the brothers who had to cross alligator infested waters blah, blah, blah... well I felt I should be doing more for God. It came from my heart. Yeah, I know. It sounds self righteous, but that was how it was. Seemed like I felt that I had to PROVE my sincerity by my works. Having 4 kids at the time, it was a lot of planning and work.

Welcome slmdf to the forum!
I wish there would've been more like you in the cong. I belonged. Those who had true empathy didn't last long. The others may have felt that they were being shown a thing or two in how to do it right. That does not go over too well.

I was a pioneer™ and I loved it. I was happy to stand tall at the entrance to the subway station, holding Watchtower magazines for all to see, dressed in my black suit, crisp white Hathaway shirt, and purple paisley tie! I was the only male pioneer™ who didn't have tassels on his shoes!!! Sisters™ swooned before me!!! I was THE MAN!!!

Wasanelder Once
Was doing the divine will of the most holy God, sure it was good. Then I found I was everyone's fool. People wanted me to be their sin eater. I declined. I was not their Father confessor and I wasn't going to sit in judgement. I left even though I had parts on the District, Circuit and other levels. Don't miss it.
Run away!
