So the evidence we have is plant pots flipped over.. that's it??!! Did I miss something.
Here's another possibility. JW calls by leaves tract. Animal or malicious person later /previously knocks over plant pots. Home owner recounts arguing with Mormons earlier. Home owner allows dots to be joined and finds stupid conclusion but uses it to vent spleen.

Here's another possibility: Someone who is neither wishes to discredit both by posing as a Morman by using an ID badge with "Elder" on it, and then places a JW tract.

Double Edge
I know that there are LDS who post here if you know of any Mormons please alert them to this news article so they can rebut if necessary.
I don't believe those "guys" were mormons, but fakes. The major clue is the date that this happened - July 4th - a Major holiday for Mormons who some consider over-the-top patriotic. I checked with my momon friends and was told that the missonaries don't "work" on the 4th - but rather attend congragation functions like the Boy Scout flag raising ceremony/pancake breakfast, picnics, parades, etc. - in other words, it's a "holiday" from their missonary work.

Effervescent
I have a suspicion this is all circumstantial. She may very well have been visited by Mormon missionaries, and then a JW left a magazine at the door before some neighboorhood kids came up to the deck and messed the place up. That magazine could have been there for hours, or even the day before.
JWs do plenty enough damage even without vandalizing I think.

Danny - I read the same article - geez, we both must use the same 'alerts' as we keep crossing the same paths. LOL
I agree, it had to be Mormons - or someone wishing to look like Mormons. White shirt, black trousers, elder badges, bikes. No doubt.
Though I detest the JW religion - I hope that no one innocent is hurt. By his own admission, this guys mom has a brain disorder - and he seems ready to attack the first Jw in sight in spite of repeated comments that it looks more like Mormons. This is the stuff of innocent victims IMO.

Why is it assumed that either the JW's or the Mormons were the vandals?

Good point, Warlock. Likely it was vandalized by someone else. I can't really see Jw's or Mormons doing this. But as far as whom it was that was calling on his Mom recently, that looks like it was Mormons. The Jw's just prob stumbled in on 'magazine day' and left a magazine in the door when no one answered I suppose is the most likely Jw involvement. Jeff

this story is such b.s. i love the guy that says, well, it must have been jw's because they left a track. come on, even jw's aren't THAT dumb.
agreed. What the hell would be the point?? Trash your deck and invite you to an assembly??
It is extremely obvious to anyone that the men the lady described were mormons and not JW's, but why would mormons do it?????
This is an act of vandelism that for some rediculous reason is trying to be pinned on JW's (because a tract that could have been placed on the hours before or after the event was found) or Mormons (because they've "been there before").
This is like saying the guy that pumped the gas into my car last week looked at me funny so I think he did it!!!!!
I am starting to wonder if the family that came up with this scenario are "inbreeders" or something..............

Mormon missionaries are not vandals. Nor would they try to intimidate anybody into joining anything. They don't engage in shouting matches with little old ladies, and certainly would not do so several times as the story suggests. Also, they do not do missionary work on the 4th of July. It's a major holiday to us super-patriotic types. Hubby was up at 5 a.m. this year to begin the Ward's 4th of July breakfast at the park, along with several other brothers. As usual, it was a packed event and went nearly until sundown when most people drove the few blocks to the town's fireworks display.
Anybody can get little black name badges made that say anything anybody would choose to have them say. That's cheap and easy. Many people have bikes. Many men have white shirts and black pants. It's easy to make people believe something that's not true based on externals that don't really add up when anybody looks closer. Con artist count on that.
In So. California some JWs did have badges made up that looked similar to those worn by Mormon missionaries. The JWs then went around being intentionally offensive to everyone who would answer the doorbell. The intention was to turn people away from opening the door to the Mormons. Unfortunately for the JWs they crossed the line when they urinated on people's bushes and got arrested. It made the newspapers. Not exactly giving a good witness. I thought it would have been a fitting punishment for the JWs to have to go knock on every door they had knocked on before and apologize for their actions. A printed apology in the paper would have been nice, too. They didn't do either, of course. I sent the article to my sister, the JW, who shot a reply back insisting the vandals must have been Mormon missionaries trying to make the JWs look bad. Ummmm, police...arrest....identity checks.
So, yes, the JWs will do acts of vandalism and engage in other activities that cause more clear-thinking people to shake their heads in disbelief. And most JWs will not believe it possible, since they themselves would never do anything of the kind. Most JWs are above such behavior.
Whomever damaged the elderly woman's flowerpots is something only the guilty ones know for sure, if the event even happened at all. What I do know for sure is:
Momon missionaries do not vandalize. That it supposedly happened on the 4th of July clinches it as false.
If everyone would just play fair, there'd be plenty of room in the sandbox for everyone.
