The Watchtower wants to know just about everything and the attendance at meetings is one of them.
Do they count how many people are at the hall a second time, just to know if anyone slipped out un noticed ?

Is it a 'priveledge' to do the counting...or indeed to be ABLE to count if you're a dub...ahh, maybe that's it. It's just stocktaking,
I thought about this topic this morning when my mom came back from her "Baptist" 2 hour long meeting. I asked her if she was allowed to leave half way during the meeting. She said sure. I told her that I used to slip out once in a while half way through the meetings, and it wasn't something you could do very easily....without noticing a few frowns on people's faces. Then I asked her if they count how many people attend the meetings. She said no.
Then I told her how it is at the Kingdom halls. I told her that they count how many people are there for the 1st meeting and how many are there at the 2nd meeting.
Indeed, to see how many couldn't bear a second hour.
In our hall the figures are skewed by the number of sisters who go out to chat in the hallway during the WT study instead of stay in their seats for the spiritual food.
Slim
They are considered different meetings jh.

I'm relieved that it has nothing to do with "control"
they are not taken twice in one meeting but once in each.
One count for TMS and then another for SM (i actually forgot it was called service meeting, had to rack my brain for a few seconds, so proud, it is becoming a distant memory :) yay)
One count for the Public Talk and then another count for the WT.

OK, I rephrased it, now you should understand.
Going to one meeting and not to the other meeting is not an option, its an obligation !!!!
So, they count it twice to see who left before it was time to leave.
It's good to know that they care so much about accuracy of their attendance numbers.
I'm sure they would NEVER inflate the numbers to make them look better for the WT Society!! (The circuit overseer does send the average attendance figures to headquarters as part of his congregation report.)
