Purps, Did you pick up a "scimmer"? It's a long handled fine screen net, kind of like a tennis racket. You just skim the top of the pool before the kids get in, and scoop the bugs out. Then turn it over and tap it on your wrist and the bugs will fall off.
Also, I don't know how big the pool is, but if it's a decent size, when the kids are ready to get out, have them walk around in a circle a few times, to create a whirlpool effect. Then have them get out, and wait a few minutes. All the grass that they brought in the pool will culminate in the middle of the pool. Use the scimmer to scoop out the grass. Use the scimmer like a rake, except use it backwards. Rake away from you, near the edge of the "pile" of grass in the middle of the pool. That makes the grass lift up. Then, get under the grass with the scimmer, and lift it out. It won't get it all, but will get most of it. Continue doing this a few times, until you are satisfied.
Sorry about the mix-up on my earlier post. Maybe someone can use my directions if they are putting in a 15 foot or 18 foot pool. I've had a rough week, death in the family.

A fine mesh net is your best defense against the bug's. A cover would be good when the pool is not in use.
