I am sorry for being so darn nice to all the JWs that I have met-being all nice and conciliatory.

I am sorry that when I debate on other boards that I am so darn polite that sometimes one cannot even be sure I am an opposer!

I am sorry for trying to make nice with JW relatives who treated me like crap.

I am sorry for not saying what I think when what usually happened was that I would garble it (trying to be 'tactful') and end up sounding like an idiot or a jackass. Or both.

I am sorry that I have only used the "f" word maybe three times and still feel guilty for every one.

I am sorry for all the clothes I didn't buy because they were too bright or not modest enough.

I am sorry for letting my oldest son walk all over me.

I am sorry for being so nice to in-laws who disrespected me and wanted my money.

I promise I will try not to make such mistakes again.

You sound as if you feel you've been powerless and used.

Don't ever regret trying to be a nice person.

Nice is good-but I stepped over into doormat land.

I decided to take back my personal power, to revel in my strengths, and to be true to myself.

To go with the apologetic mood everyone is having, I'm "sorry" for butting in to this thread JW-Daughter.

But seriously I'd get rid of the word "try" in that above sentence. See how this sounds:

I promise I will not make such mistakes again.

See doesn't that sound better? Like Yoda said in the Empire Strikes Back (if I remember correctly), "Try NOT, just DO".

the first couple of times you tell someone where to go and how to get there can be scary, but after a while it is very fun.

    JW Daughter,

Good on you for seeing all that!

I think you got a good head perched on your shoulders and will do fine.

I had lost this thread and am glad I found it again! Bigdreax, you are fun! Funny! I enjoy your posts, but that was a pisser!

    Gopher, you are exactly right!

Everyone, thanks! I am getting better at this and its funny, I am getting along better with people and like them more when I stopped trying to placate everyone and make nice all the time.

I found out that saying what I actually MEAN usually comes off much NICER than trying to couch it in 'nicer' words. Direct is effective and removes a lot of BS. Some days I am nicer by being blunt and honest. With my kids, I was becoming passive aggressive in my anger and trying to get them to do things. Just asking directly, and telling directly seems to have removed a lot of sarcasm. So I guess I am learning more than I thought. I haven't turned into a flaming bitch yet. Darn!
