Well, we're like loaves of bread.

I like lots of hot, tasty, melted butter on my bread. Is that wrong?

Are we essentially moral beings, corrupted by society?

Or are we in fact amoral, socialized by cultural pressures and religious beliefs?

    Thats a good question.

My guess is we are amoral, socialized by cultural pressures and religious beliefs. Yah thats my answer. I got married because of cultural pressures and religious beliefs. And there are some people that I would pay back if I didnt have to worry about paying a toll to society.

The United States is a country of laws. If you want to get along you go along with the laws. If you dont the law will come calling and lock you up. Those that can not follow the laws are locked up and institutionalized away from society. So being moral and concerned about the laws and rules will keep you out of trouble with the law. Unless you have a lot of gold and then you make the rules. We live by the Goden rule in Amerika.

To understand human nature one must probe deeper than the constucts of cultural conditioning, and peer into the unconscious past the persona, and the shadow(darkside we don't want to own up to). I think C. Jung had made progress in that direction even though he never was able to completely reach the center which he called the self.
