I feel so sorry for the wife and son of this man that lost his life trying to care for a woman being pistol whipped and purse stolen in WalMart parking lot
Jacksonville man is shot and killed outside a North Little Rock department store, the result of a purse snatching gone horribly wrong.
It happened outside the Wal Mart Supercenter on East McCain in North Little Rock Sunday afternoon. Witnesses say a man was attempting to steal a woman's purse when he shot 40-year-old Dean Worden of Jacksonville.
Worden was trying to intervene in the woman's beating and was shot twice. The man jumped in the passenger side of a Chrysler 300 and fled the scene.
North Little Rock police now say that gunman is Joshua Leallen Loften, 17. He was arrested early Monday morning and has been charged with capital murder as an adult in the case.
Bill Garner says the man pistol-whipped his wife, stole her purse and shot Worden before getting away.
“She said the man hit her four or five times with a pistol and got her purse,” he said. “The guy that got out of the car saw her getting pistol-whipped and hollered, ‘Hey,’ as if to interfere, and the guy turned around and shot him twice.”
