The elders were there to help make sure Margaret would die

But Paul Gillies, from the faith’s public information office, admitted they would “provide support” so Witnesses were able to stick to their original wishes against medical or family pressures. Asked if elders would have tried to persuade Margaret not to have a transfusion, he said: “That scenario doesn’t fit with my experience. We make our decisions based on the Bible, but if somebody changed their mind and said, ‘I do want blood’, then that’s up to them.

“We would never pressure anybody otherwise.”

Is this the same JW who denied the initial UN/NGO debacle?

Yes - the clue should be the name of the department he represents --> "public MISinformation office".

    Here's that link that shows he's the liar/denier: http://www.randytv.com/secret/gillies.htm

Gopher- Thanks so much for the thread. Mr. Flipper here. More people need to be informed of what this cult is doing destroying people and families. We need more of this to let people know! Peace to you, Mr. Flipper

    Gopher:

Many JW's have secretly taken transfusions and lived on (but didn't tell). That must be why they formed these Hospital Liasion Committees in the first place, to ensure JW obedience (despite what they say otherwise). Paul Gillies didn't and wouldn't admit that if Margaret had taken this transfusion and lived, her elders would have announced at one of the next meetings that Margaret was no longer one of JW's.

    I agree,

If it were truly a personal decision as they say, then there is no reason at all to have the elders(specifically trained for pushing the blood doctrine) to be present at the hospital.

There presence alone is pressure at it's highest level. The j-dub can either refuse blood, or automatically have their ass kicked out of the congregation. Most j-dubs would rather face death than lose all of their lifelong friends and family. Pressure? nah, none at all!

Her daughter Gaynor Campbell, wife of Motorhead guitarist Phil Anthony Campbell, today claimed faith elders had visited Margaret in hospital to ensure she would stick to the religion’s strict ban on receiving blood transfusions.

Oh, well. She probably wouldn't have been very useful in the door-to-door preaching work after that hip operation at her age, anyway, and Jehovah will resurrect her in the new system anyway, which is but a 'short sleep away.' Don't you worry, now, okay?

Did any one ask if the doctors tried to find an alternative treatment for her? Were there any other options or are we all just focused on the sensationalism of yet another "Blood" case hitting the news.?

C'mon. Let's face it. IF she was a faithful JW, she would not have taken the blood. It's her decision. I think it's crazy but it is her right.

I can only go on the press report here.

    But it did say this:

She underwent an operation but complications during her recovery meant a low red blood cell count was straining her heart and she needed a transfusion. Margaret later suffered a heart attack and died.

Sometimes there is no "alternative" treatment. It's get the blood volume up or there'll be a death. Even the WTS knows this, and yet their HLC groups are sent out to ensure adherence to the religion's rules.

    Red blood cells carry oxygen.

without them, cells die from oxygen starvation...anyone suffereing from mild anemia knows what the dizziness, chest pains are like.

Her red cell count was so low, she died from it. There was NO TIME to offer any other medications to build up her red cell count, as they take time.

Very informative site, explaining how they can use bloodless surgeries, cell savers, medications, but when blood loss is drastic, the only option is to replace the lost blood. Volume expanders do not have the oxygen carrying red blood cells.
