I'm taking Intro to Psychology right now. This week, we've been learning about thinking (including critically). I love this stuff. Go for it!
Human Resources is a good field to get into with a Psych degree, too, if you wanted something in addition to social work. -

Thank you...though it was seeing my kids go through some stuff that's directed my heart into this field. I'm about to end my first degree and will be looking into this for my BA. I knew going into the healthcare industry I wanted to work with kids but after study what I've study so far, my heart is into children's minds and how they think. After all, they are just little humans and need help just like the rest of us. Oh, and I can use ALL the help I can get...this will be an interesting journey. I wish you all the luck and encouragement!!!

In all seriousness, I think that would be a wonderful thing to do. You would have a carreer that helps others and brings personal rewards as well. By all means, go for it.

anna, my wife is looking into helping kids. i don't think i can. it's hard for me to relate to kids, and i don't have that personality. not to mention, kids are usually afraid of me. i think anna would be perfect for it though.

I LOVED critical thinking too...We had to go through 3 classes. Right now I'm ending my Human Resourses. My human resourse class was all to do with figuring out budgets for companies. We had a few lessons how to be managers but it was mainly on finances. I really couldn't see why this was a required class. -

bigd,
I think you should go for it! Obviously there is a need for people coming out of not only JW, but other cults too.

Go for it. Just make sure you resolve your own issues before seeking this out as a career; otherwise, you will be lost. Too much pain and nausea otherwise.
By the way, psychiatrists have (or once had) the highest rates of suicide in the professional fields. Maybe psychiatrists are overachievers or something . . . I dunno . . . anyway, if you can find a way to make a difference, it's worth the trouble, I suppose . . . best wishes and don't become a drunk like me . . . a fate worse than death . . . meniachal laughter . . .
