still unhappy trying to make everyone else happy, so I stepped down. Seems that I did it all for everyone else instead of myself... Go figure

Although I was an MS and not an elder, I feel the same way. The doctrine we are taught is that you absolutely must "turn the other cheek" to be their kind of Christian. They teach sheeplike meekness, and a yielding spirit.

In that way, you never stand up for yourself. That's the way they liked us. They had me that way, and it didn't serve me well.

It's almost like you have to give yourself permission to be the least bit assertive. Now you're out from under their thumb. Feels good, doesn't it?
