    *** w67 2/1 pp. 70-71 How God Speaks to Us Today ***

God’s Word is not out-of-date in this modern scientific world. The facts show that it is sound. Concerning this, Earl Chester Rex, a mathematician and author of the textbook Vector Analysis, says: “As a scientist I find my conclusions concerning God and the universe confirmed by the sacred Scriptures. I happen to believe those Scriptures. I believe all they say about the origin and direction of this universe. . . . [Critics] have been caught in errors too often for us to accept their flippant assertions.” (In The Evidence of God in an Expanding Universe—J. C. Monsma.) Even as the Bible is scientifically accurate and contains reliable history, as archaeologists have confirmed, it also contains God’s perfect principles to guide us through these hard-to-deal-with times.

I found it interesting that this person is cited as being a scientist because of his having written the book Vector Analysis.

Here are the details about this book obtained from an online book dealer:

    Title: Vector Analysis

    Author: Rex, Earl C.

    Publisher: Wm. C. Brown Dubuque

    Yr. Published: 1952

    Attributes: Spiral Bind soft Cover

Description: Very Good Oversized format. 88 pages. Brown wraps lightly worn over all but no creasing or tearing. Wire spiral bind is intact. Pages are clean.

I could not find the book listed in the Library of Congress online catalog.

Is writing an 88 page book the only requirement to be called a scientist?

    WHAT WAS THAT BOOK ABOUT?

The book Vector Analysis is about mathematical objects called vectors that are essential for doing problems in physics.

    Good point.

Another problem with JW literature along these lines is the fact that all quotes they have from Christians are outside their organization. While certain individuals can be linked with certain principles that the WTS puts forth, these same never make the even more important discovery of 'Gods organization'. And if that realization is not made, then whatever 'commendable' thing they have is of little value by JW reasoning.

Apparently so. So I guess if one writes an eight page article on the parables of Jesus, and how they relate to the Watchtower Society, this makes him a Bible scholar. Hey! Our fellow poster "Scholar" was right after all! The Society does have an arsenal of celebrated scholars. It's called the Watchtower writing department.

This is also one of the dumbest fallacies. SINCE: Mr. Smart/Famous/Expert says he believes in the Bible THEREFORE: It MUST be true.

I wonder if it's like an abridged Schaum's Outline, basically a quick-study guide for college students.

Even this one has 240 pages:

Actually, appeal to authority, when used correctly, is not fallacious. That's why expert witnesses in court cases have their credentials scrutinized.
