jgnat: yeah that looked pretty ucky. And I suppose you Do make a good point about steeping....

RF: Hey that works. It's just interesting that you're the second person who mentioned it.

being summer, I like a nice fresh brewed iced tea as opposed to pop.

RF: Ok, maybe I'm missing something. Why is it that the sweet tea goes along well with being in the south?

Blackswan, I wondered the same thing. I'm a northern transplant (mostly midwest and sometime in Vermont) and the first thing I noticed besides southern accents was the quantities of sweet tea being consumed down here. Sweet tea has to be brewed, a popular tea they use is Luizzanne, sometimes Lipton. If you use try using Nestea powder, then you'll be labeled as a heathen! Here a couple of sites that talk about the history of southern sweet tea:

when I was growing up my mother's answer to everything was a cup of tea. We didn't have medical care (no money), so if we were sick, we got a cup of tea. If we were REALLY sick, we got a cup of tea and an orange.

I am a dedicated iced tea drinker - real black tea, not that flavored crap, and no sugar, but lots of ice. I like Te Java, tastes good and sits in the frig for when I want it. However, a good black tea, loose tea preferred, brewed correctly is wonderful. It's not hard to brew tea correctly. Also I found a good source for good tasting black tea or any other kind of real tea (not that herbal stuff) is the local Indian grocery store - the Lipton they sell is far superior to the Lipton at the regular grocery store.

My wife and I drink a lot of tea. We have a pantry full of it. We have teas by Twinning, Republic of tea, Harney and Sons, Tazo, Stash, Celestial Seasons and others I can't think of right now.
